I put together a quick chart of (at least the obvious interconnections) between the Seven Sets referred to by Thanissaro Bhikkhu as the "Wings to Awakening". I figured at least some here might find it useful. Please let me know what you think, and enjoy!

nominative plural of mūla?
Could someone give me a confirmation of whether the standard nominative plural of "mūla" is "mūlāni"? I'm specifically looking at the usage of "akusalamūlāni", and since I believe "mūla" is a neuter noun I think the nominative plural should be "mūlāni&quo...

Re: removal, abandonment of desire and lust (MN 13)
Hi Dan, this is actually something you can find out for yourself with the right resources. You can find one version of the Pali text at http://studies.worldtipitaka.org/tipitaka/9M/2/2.3 . I don't have Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation, so I was looking at http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.013...

I was noticing that as I went through. Could you point to the places where you noticed this happening?Manapa wrote:it looks OK, although there are some english missing from the pali!

interlinear version of the Anattalakkhana Sutta
I've put together an interlinear version of the Anattalakkhana Sutta based on Thanissaro Bhikkhu's English translation and the pali text from the World Tipitaka (http://studies.worldtipitaka.org/tipitaka/13S3/1/1.2/1.2.1/1.2.1.7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Can anyone g...

"nonattached attachment"
I just read a wonderful interview with John Welwood, entitled "Human Nature, Buddha Nature", found at http://www.tricycle.com/interview/human-nature-buddha-nature . I especially liked his description of "nonattached attachment" and the distinction between the healthier vs less he...

Re: Why things are impermanent
I'm thinking that things are impermanent because there is an element of volition in every sense-experience and when one tries to possess the object that volition is no longer there nor is the experience. What do you think? What kinds of things are you thinking about that would require this kind of ...

Having circles for length and tone got confusing, but how about this?mikenz66 wrote:I'd prefer something "lighter", maybe an open circle

evening chanting with syllable length and pitch
For those of you who also enjoy chanting the evening chanting along with the audio from the Abhayagiri Monastery ( http://www.abhayagiri.org/index.php/main/media ), I have made a resource that you may enjoy. I have made a transcript of the chanting, separated by syllable, which shows the syllable le...

sixth precept and percentage of a monk's day
Thinking about the sixth precept, I realize I don't have a good idea of what abstaining from food after noon looks like for a typical monk's schedule. How long does a monk's day usually last? About what proportion of a monk's day is over by the time they eat their midday meal (e.g. half? 60%? 40%?)....

Re: The idea of Theravāda; its currency, and its relation to Sou
I write this post mainly to point out some recent publications that may be of interest to readers of this forum, and which relate to the topics I just discussed. The first one is an article by Prof.Peter Skilling: Skilling, P. (2009) ‘Theravāda in History’, Pacific World, Third Series, no. 11: pp.6...

Preparing space
In reading about Wicca, I noticed many ritual elements designed to create sacred space, to make the space and by extension the mind properly prepared for contemplation. This makes me wonder, what do you do to prepare your space and get yourself in the right frame of mind for meditation? For me, I've...

Re: New Transliterated Pali/Sanskrit IME
I could create something that would run inside your browser, if that's acceptable. I've done things like this in the past, where the program either converts a whole set of input, or (a little harder) converts your text as you type. But again, that would only be inside of a webpage. If you're willing...
