Re: NeedabittaMetta....
Even though I know you only through your posts (and your replies to mine) that was what I used to guide my metta to you while meditating. When I read 'the quiet mind' years back, it didn't seem strange (or even mildly unusual) that Sayagi U Ba Khin had asked his students to meditate and 'tune in' to...

Re: Suggestions are requested
Thanks David As far as Buddhists giving Buddhist names to their children, my response is why not? Christians and Jews often give Biblical names to their children, Muslims give Muslim/Arabic names to their children, Hindus give Hindi and Sanskrit names, etc. this makes it easier for me, though it'll ...

Re: Suggestions are requested
Thank you all for your replies Personally, I would never do it - give a child of mine a Pali name. If you're not careful, your child will be burdened with your expectation of them continuing with or fulfilling your own spiritual aspirations NB - I think most parents who think on naming carefully DO ...

Re: Poll: Are you vegetarian/vegan?
I have been a vegetarian for a long time, before Vipassana and Buddhism. A few days back as I pointed out a cow to my toddler I said "cows give us milk" and I think to myself Really?? Do they? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say "We take milk from cows" My granny had a huge fa...

Re: Do you find Hinayana offensive?
As an Indian, and therefore knowing and using Hindi as my language, yes I do find Hinayana offensive. My two bits: it doesn't seem to be a name that would be chosen by any group to refer to themselves, its a name that would be accorded to a group by another group - trying hard to appear better, supe...

Hi
Hi I found this site while 'googling' for some answers. I've been practising Vipassana meditation, as taught by S N Goenka (India) for some time. Very irregular in my daily sittings for the past 2 years. Its really embarrasing, but there are some questions I have, and I don't know where to look for ...
