Hi Chownah,
I apologize for trying to say that your argument was a perversion on someone's intention.

I don't buy meat. It's that simple. You don't need to try pervert it into something else.

Re: The most efficient way of cultivating metta?
Though you guys seem to have a lowered opinion of Bhante V, I've been reading some of his work and I want to try and see if it works, if that's all right. Hi Ninjbyte, I think the main issue on here that some people have with the bhante is the way he seem to misrepresent (or "puts down") ...

What does Ven. Vimalaramsi teach that's different in the metta practice? I'm not familiar with it.

Re: The most efficient way of cultivating metta?
Hi Ninjbyte, The bodhisattva path isn't part of Theravada (though at least one teacher wrote about it, Ven. Ledi Sayadaw)... it is Mahayanist, so you don't need to worry about it. The main goal is just to discern suffering, how it arises and what would lead to its cessation. I think that a metta pra...

Re: Kamma, Vipaka and Rebirth
Actually each of those seventeen moments you mention is a completely new and different consciousness. Different yes, but I don't think completely new. It is constructed out of what was in the previous moment. Or else there would've been a "brand new" birth, with a completely clean slate.....

Re: What is No-Self?
You don't waste time thinking about it and find an appropriate place. That is because you have a transient self in control - a master up in your noggin flicking switches. With self abolished an arahant does not have a master up there. Hi No_Mind, I wish I have the time to participate in a deeper wa...

Re: What is No-Self?
But then the question arises - if the self disappears how does the arahant perform daily tasks. I think the arahant performs daily tasks without relying on any idea of self. For example to put it bluntly - when you are in a bus and you want to pee your self tells you not to pee till you find a rest...

Why the.... I don't even know .... He wouldn't be wearing his robe at night - would he? Why would the robe become messy? And it's highly unlikely a Monk would have this issue (if you will pardon the phrase). Maybe a young novice, or an inexperienced śrāmaṇera would, but I doubt very much a fully-or...

Aki, "western" is a false construction. Seems like it has become a part of your worldview, now... welcome to it. You could learn how to practice with it, or not. Dear Aki, I would like to apologize for this part of my post. It was inappropriate, and uncalled for... so I'm sorry about it. ...

Re: Levitation and a Simple Bhikkhu
The Buddha gave the same answer when asked the second time. At the third request, the Buddha told him about the three kinds of miracles which he had known and realized by his own insight. The first was the miracle of psychic power (iddhi patihariya) consisting in the ability to become many and pass...
