Re: What You Might Not Know about Jhāna & Samādhi by Kumāra Bhikkhu

IMO, it's mostly a case of McMendicants who don't feel the need to learn the Dharma because they " feel it inside" or have personally decided that they've "tasted the fancy business " and have no time for real Buddhadharma. As usual, there's no solution aside from demonstrating ...

Re: What You Might Not Know about Jhāna & Samādhi by Kumāra Bhikkhu

No, you are not telling the truth. The truth is what we are seeing are the inevitable results of the EBT movement going mainstream. Dhamma practitioners are divided, at each other's throats, and the Dhamma is being weakened and beginning to look like it will be blown over by a strong wind. Also har...

I am telling the truth. You are engaged in endless obfuscation of that truth. No, you are not telling the truth. Re: What does it mean to interpret Suttas according to classical vs non-classical way?

:anjali: I think those who interpret the suttas in a classical way come to the conclusion: "I should practice sīla, samādhi, and pañña." However, those who interpret the suttas in a non-classical way come to the conclusion: "I should practice sīla, samādhi, and pañña." Virgo

Re: What You Might Not Know about Jhāna & Samādhi by Kumāra Bhikkhu

I think his conclusions are very good. It's interesting to me though that he didn't flesh out the need for very pure sīla. It's only when we come face to face with our defilements through restraint that we see how powerful they are, how much sway they have, and how we can never fully control them ev...

Re: Why only lying is included as wrong speech in five precepts?

Perhaps because it's the very minimal standard of sīla, to be observed by every Buddhist, and so needs to be a standard that every Buddhist (including those with strong defilements) could realistically aim for. I agree with this sentiment. When laypeople are ready for more training, they can undert...

Re: Can I become a monk after I get married?

Hi, If I might wish to become a monk later on in life, since now I'm not ready yet and want to get married. Is this right to do? Can my future wife able to live alone? Would it be right to leave her alone? Thanks One thing I can say is that the later you start it, the harder the monk's life will be...

Re: Hello

Hi Anthony, and welcome. There is a very nice Monastery in Perth, Ontario - not terribly far from Toronto - which I have visited before. Ajahn Viradhammo is the Abbot there. It is a nice place. People can also visit, offer alms, hear talks, do meditation, etc. You might find some like-minded people ...
