Re: What is conducive to awakening?

So with respect, why discuss it here Sonam ? You chose of your own free will to join a Theravadin forum. You were and are, very welcome. But I would suggest that you find some means of finding common ground, because simply introducing Mahayana/Vajrayana doctrine into the various debates will inevit...

Re: Dalai Lama's opinion of Vissudhimagga

hello tiltbillings, ... if vajrayana teachings are so "ignorant" why to be so irritated ? may you found happiness and appeasement ! I understand that English is not your primary language. I did not say Vajrayana teachings are ignorant. I said that Wallace's approach was grossly sectarian,...

Re: What is conducive to awakening?

Ignorance is also a conditionned state, it's not intrinsic, it i original purity, otherwise it could not be any Bouddha, Dharma and so on ... If all starts from ignorance, all would have stay in ignorance ... ignorance can only produce ignorance. Only purity can produces purity. If that were true, ...

Re: What is conducive to awakening?

According to the kind of Mahayana view which is not shared by large numbers of those who have joined a THERAVADA forum. Starting with the idea of " primordial purity ". The Buddha is far far more radical. He started with the idea of primordial ignorance. Sonam we 21 st century Theravadins...

Re: What is conducive to awakening?

Hi Sonam, My understanding is that Nibbana literally means "extinguish" and is not a thing which "appears". So for something to "Nibbana" is for that thing to, in a way, "disappear". Or so it "appears" to me... With Metta, Guy nirvana like samsara i...

Re: What is conducive to awakening?

Possessing was a short cut, you are right nothing is possessed by no one ... "The primordial purity of the original basis transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence, and it is the great transcending of the objects of conception and expression. As the essence of the basis is primordi...

Re: What is conducive to awakening?

What is conducive to awakening is the absence of that which is un-conducive (if that's even a real word). Awakened is our natural state however so much of what we attach to, obsesses over, or believe to be real muddy's the waters. That's why so much of our practice is staying with the raw bare bone...

Commentary on Sabbasava Sutta

As you may know the vehicle I'm following is not the same as the one most of you follow ... nevertheless it's about the same enlightenment. I would be interested in understanding how the following part of the Sabbasava Sutta (translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu) is understood ... and more, how it fit i...

Re: Dalai Lama's opinion of Vissudhimagga

... My own personal view is that Tenzing Gyatso's view of the Vissudhimagga should not be rejected out of hand. It is as interesting as that of any intelligent person who has pondered the points it makes. No more, no less. ... with no possibility thant Tenzin Gyatso could be more than a "intel...
