Bee a sweety, honey - please sign petition
<vow off> Breaking my vow of no posting to bee nice ... Dear Friend, Since 2006, U.S. honey bee populations have been in precipitous decline, with some estimates suggesting losses as high as 30% per year. While that's terrible, the problem is far greater than just the loss of a species. Without bees...
Gratitude
Thanks to all for the incredible experience DhammaWheel provides. The end of this quote is emphasised because it represents the experience here: Love, without desire to possess, knowing well that in the ultimate sense there is no possession and no possessor: this is the highest love. Love, without s...

Re: The middle way
For as far I know about the teachings of the Buddha, there is a lot of emphasis given on the subject of "non-attachment" towards things (materialism) and people, about living in seclusion and about removing feelings like jealousy, anger, hatred, etc. But. How does a "lay-person"...

Re: The middle way
Hi, I have a question. How does a "lay-person" find the middle-way? Are there any people among you who are married (or single or maybe in a relationship) and who follow the teachings of the Buddha? What do the teachings of the Buddha mean to you? Why do you call yourself a "Buddhist&...

Re: What do Buddhists think of Jesus Christ?
Jesus grounded his teaching in the idea of a permanent self ... Jesus taught morality, but he did not know the truth of nature I am not sure we know much of what Jesus actually taught - his 12 disciples were pretty thick and did not seem to get it - what we know as the Christian church was started ...

Re: The stage of a Gotrabu
Did Siddharta Goutami reached the stage of an Arahant in his lifetime we heard about? There are three types of fully awakened beings - a Buddha, enlightened on his own and teaches, a Pacceka-buddha, enlightened by and for himself, who does not teach and an Arahant, who follows the teachings of a Bu...

Re: The stage of a Gotrabu
The first stage of enlightenment is sotapanna: Stream winner. A person who has abandoned the first three of the fetters that bind the mind to the cycle of rebirth (see samyojana) and has thus entered the "stream" flowing inexorably to nibbana, ensuring that one will be reborn at most only ...

Re: Just War and Buddhism
The Buddha allows monks to dis-robe and re-robe. An example of social action, a monk may dis-robe, work for money for a hospital, school etc., spend that money, then re-robe. Once dis-robed, they are not bound by monk's rules - nor are they allowed the moniker of "monk". A lay-buddhist cou...

Yes. Tooth cleaning sticks were used at the time of Buddha - toothbrushes are allowed today. See: The Bhikkhus' Rules - A Guide for Laypeople Monastic Code Care of the teeth. Toothbrushes, dental floss, toothpaste, and tooth powders were unknown in the time of the Buddha. However, there is an allowa...
