i did a goenka retreat and sat in the main hall the whole time mostly without moving much. i wasn't flexible enough to sit on the floor without injury and i wasnt instructed on how to sit properly. just worked through the pain like they said. came home and my back was out for weeks, stuck in bed. ha...

stretching for sitting on floor

injured my low back doing vipassana retreats at age 18, low back bulging disc issues since then. so can't sit on floor comfortably. i stretched 1-2 hours daily roughly for a couple years w/ no marked improvement. still can't sit on floor without hurting low back. any suggestions?

you can find places to practice w/out meditation visa, but for long term and certain places you need to get one. when i was there they weren't called meditation visas. or rather there weren't meditation visas, only certain places that required government sponsorships/approved papers. not sure if the...

Abhayagiri and Wat Metta vs the local thai temples or the burmese monastery in Austin sitagu. i'm not a buddhist scholar but i'm pretty sure this divide is pretty widely recognized.

I don't think it's blatantly racist to ask why Buddhism doesn't appeal to sopme sectors of society and what we as Buddhists can do to make it more accessible. This is what I assume the OP is about.

Ben - I haven't read the Vinaya in full so I can't get into specifics of what's there and what isn't. Shaving eyebrows i'm pretty sure is not in there as a req. for all monks. not sure lay people having to bow to the monks or wear all white to stay at monasteries; again 'what the buddha never taught...
