Parth,
The main point I'm trying to make is: Buddha taught many, many ways to develop 'Vipassana' (insight, clear-seeing, etc) - so Vipassana is not just one technique of body-scanning (as taught by SN Goenka).

Re: IMS,Ajahn Chah, Mahasi Sayadaw,Ba Khin & Goenka, Kornfield
Dear Parth, As I said previously, your posts seem to be SN Goenka discourses copy-pasted, again :) So yeah, maybe Buddha taught 'Vipassana' as a means to liberation, but 'Vipassana' does not mean 'body-scanning technique as taught by SN Goenka'. If you one day decide to do some reading outside that ...

Re: IMS,Ajahn Chah, Mahasi Sayadaw,Ba Khin & Goenka, Kornfield
Zavk, Great post, nice to read about your practice history. It seems you are quite open-minded and thats great. By the way, I've heard that this "Sayadaw U Pandita Jr" is a great teacher, he taught a guy I know who was sitting a retreat in Malaysia. Also, what do you mean by "straight...

Re: IMS,Ajahn Chah, Mahasi Sayadaw,Ba Khin & Goenka, Kornfield
Hi Zavk, I also read that particular short essay on the "Sayagyi U Ba Khin Journal". Specifically, I remember SN Goenka wrote that he was afraid that Mahasi Sayadaw might offer him to try his technique. I also hold no bad feelings against Goenka and am very grateful for the practice and co...

A recent article by Jack Kornfield called "Enlightenments". In this article he compares the different views / practices / experiences of enlightenment in different traditions (Mahasi Sayadaw, Ajahn Chah). http://www.inquiringmind.com/Articles/Enlightenments.html" onclick="window....

IMS,Ajahn Chah, Mahasi Sayadaw,Ba Khin & Goenka, Kornfield
Here's an interesting article by Jack Kornfield about the establishment of IMS in Barre, MA, the first centre to offer teachings from many lineages, not just one. http://www.spiritrock.org/download/BDH.Summer07.Kornfield.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A quote from the a...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment
Well I really can't give a comprehensive review of this whole issue but Tarin and Daniel had a long conversation about this at Daniel's ranch and recorded it for other people's benefit. http://www.interactivebuddha.com/podcasts.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Its calle...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment
Something that is quite interesting to me is that, nowadays, Daniel Ingram is working under the guidance of a friend of his (tarin greco) who has claimed to eliminate all forms of craving and suffering what so ever. He says that emotions of all types do not arise for him at all, and that he lives in...

I don't quite understand your post, Tilt.tiltbillings wrote:Well, the Dhammakaya is out there, but thank goodness you are not targeting someone such as U Ba Khin or Mahasi Sayadaw.
What do you mean by that ('thank goodness you are not targeting U Ba Khin or Mahasi Sayadaw')?

Re: Latest from "hardcore dharma"
I see your point, but you never really engage the points made by other here. You do your best to try to brush them aside without addressing them directly. Thats true, and the reason is - I am not here to defend anyone's claim of Arahatship, or any other attainment! I do not represent Daniel Ingram ...

Re: Latest from "hardcore dharma"
Of course, it could be all speculation from us... but it's not really something for them to hide behind. If they really know the Dhamma for themselves, then they shouldn't have any problem in handling any kind of scrutiny. They will not feel bothered, or feel the need to accuse other people of bein...

Re: Latest from "hardcore dharma"
I just hope that many people practicing the ingram/folk method find their way to real Dhamma to something that will provide real benefit to their lives. What constitutes "real Dhamma" in your opinion? Also, how do you measure the benefit people have gotten? This is quite presumptious. You...

Re: Latest from "hardcore dharma"
Well, after going beyond the 11th nyana (Equanimity regarding formations) for the first time and attaining cessation or nibbana, the momentary cessation of mind&body, one is in what's often called a 'Review phase', that is, one can attain Fruition of first path at will, but it takes practice. Af...

Maybe, maybe not.Shonin wrote:Also, surely this isn't what's meant by 'Cessation' in the Suttas?
When you attain cessation, compare your experience to both accounts and please let us know your results.
