Anāgāmis doing Jhāna in Brahmā-realms?

Dear friends in the Dhamma,

I'm looking for suttas which mention, that anāgāmis who were reborn and abide in brahmā-realms are capable of jhāna practice respectively are doing jhana practice in order to progress.

Much Metta,
Mirco :-)

Re: Is fishing breaking the precept?

Dear No Mind, Confused :? Is there any other way of killing it than ordering it be killed? We have choice of frozen and fresh and nearly everyone eats fresh (frozen meat tastes yuck). Chicken or tilapia or crab .. the vendor will ask which one do you want to be killed, skinned and cut. Where I live,...

Re: upekkhaa in third jhana in M111

Dhamma Greetings, So what is the pali translation in fourth Jhana? Does it have Upekkha? just a reminder: every Jhana has upekkha. It always is second to last. In the third, there also is a special mentioning of upekkha before the listing: Puna caparaṃ, bhikkhave, sāriputto pītiyā ca virāgā upekkhak...

Re: upekkhaa in third jhana in M111

Dhamma Greetings, yes, the Ven. Bodhi's translation also has, what I metioned - two times equanimity, where it has only one upekkhā in Pali Ven. Bodhi: “And the states in the third jhāna — the equanimity , the pleasure, the mindfulness, the full awareness, and the unification of mind; the contact, f...

upekkhaa in third jhana in M111

Dhamma Greetings, in M111 (Anupadasutta), before the elements of the 3rd Jhana are listed, one can read: Puna caparaṃ, bhikkhave, sāriputto pītiyā ca virāgā upekkhako ca viharati sato ca sampajāno, sukhañca kāyena paṭisaṃvedeti. Yaṃ taṃ ariyā ācikkhanti: ‘upekkhako satimā sukhavihārī’ti tatiyaṃ jhān...

ñca-ending

Dhamma Greetings, in the listing of the elements of the Jhanas in the Anupada Sutta (MN 111 / MN3, 2. 1.), one finds for the first and second Jhana following terms: 1st & 2nd: ... ca pīti ca sukhañca cittekaggatā ca, phasso ... 3rd: ... ca sati ca sampajaññañca cittekaggatā ca, phasso ... Now, w...

Re: formal meditation in groups

Dhamma Greetings Ven. Pesala, Take account of the fact that many forest monks and nuns in the Buddha's time were already Noble Ones, and were developing concentration for higher stages. Nowadays, most are not so pure-hearted and may need some group support to keep them practising consistently. Most ...

formal meditation in groups

Dhamma Greetings, this is about, as the title suggests, doing formal meditation in groups. As far as I can remember the Suttas, I never read, that the Buddha recommended to sit in groups. Only suggestions to sit at the foot of trees or empty huts, but never 'groups'. But meditating in groups is what...
