Congratulations Stefan
On a side note, does any one of you know a pali prayer to say/chant before eating?
I've been searching that cause it would be a great way to abstain from eating sweets and stuff

Re: "Mixing" traditions?
Thanks a lot for all these answers  Not from my humble understanding, I have read a number of Theravadin teachers argue quite forcefully that rebirth within any of the thirty one "planes of existence" should be taken as literally meaning "at the break-up of the body, after deat...

Re: "Mixing" traditions?
Thanks a lot for all you kind advices! Don't believe everything you from a Mahayana point of view about the Theravada. Liberation benefits all and awakening is not limited to monks. Oh, really? :? I thought I read awakening was limited to monks in the Theravada tradition. I'm sorry if I misint...

"Mixing" traditions?
Hi everybody :anjali: I've read many things about Theravada buddhism late months, but I must say I'm not totally "in love" with it. I really appreciate the fact it's the closest tradition to what Buddha really taught, but : A/ I really feel like a need of "devotion" that's more i...

Re: Theravada "leader(s)"
Thanks a lot for all these answeeers  IMHO the most prominent Theravada master might be Mahāsi Sayādaw - he was a questioner and final editor at the Sixth Buddhist Council. I didn't even knew him :reading: thanks a lot for that :) Theravada is very decentralised and abbots and lineages seem t...

Re: Theravada "leader(s)"
That's ok. It's a common mistake. but actually, in a similar vein I don't think there is any one specific outstanding authority figure in Theravada. There are however, several extremely respected and prominent teachers. AFAIK.....(And trust me, I am 'Mrs Ignorant' on this factor, and many others......

Re: Theravada "leader(s)"
The Dala Lama is not the spiritual leader of Mahayana Buddhism. He is the Temporal Leader of Tibet, and the Spiritual Lama of one single Tibetan Buddhist School, The Gelupa. (The others being Kagyu, Shakya and Nyingma). I'm really sorry, I was almost sure that he wasn't the spiritual leader of Maha...

Theravada "leader(s)"
Hi everybody  I've read some Dalaï lama's books but the fact he's often referring to Mahayana sutras led me to think : "If Dalaï-Lama's the spiritual leader of Mahayana Buddhism (or at least Tibetan Buddhism), then are there any... leading figures in Theravada Buddhism?" Or, if not,...

Vegetarian monk kitten...? MUST SEE.
I just found out these 2 videos on Ven. Heng Sure's facebook wall. "It's a very special vegetarian kitty that stays in the temple all day and gazes at the Buddha's images. It even cries as if it's in repentance! When the people tried to give the kitty fish and chicken it would turn its head and...
