Re: Nas Daily on Buddhism
Definitely rising up in the world. Maybe a promotion from "Shabbos goy" to "Ōr laGōyyīm" (Light unto the nations) is in the offing. Those YouTube likes must be paying off. https://www.adl.org/resources/press-release/adl-honors-israeli-palestinian-content-creator-nuseir-yassin-202...

Re: Nas Daily on Buddhism
It's not that deep, just a basic intro. But he is an excellent youtuber, videographer and has the resources to make dramatic videos, background music, etc to make it look good and promote Buddhism. Can't stand his style of mid-wit forced enthusiasm. Take a look at his cringe-worthy adulation of Sam...

Re: Why is it that only ghosts can benefit from merit performed by humans?
Nothing is transferred. Then why call it transferring merit Wikipedia not yet part of the Canon; but sometimes it has some good things to say. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_of_merit Likely the idea of transferring was likely a Mahayana thing. Ancestor worship etc.. Some speculation that it...

Thank you for the update. Very happy to hear that the operation went well. If it is not too much trouble, could you please continue to post updates here? Not daily or such... just from time to time. Again, very happy!

Re: Is there Mahasi Sayadaw meditation center in India?
This question was posted on dharmaoverground.org, and the only reply was that there does not seem to be any permanent Mahasi centre in India. It was suggested that the centre in Nepal might be a good alternative. So, if you are in Northern India, and have the means to get to Nepal that is an option....

Re: Ensuring a more cohesive society (Farage - Coutts bank)
Turns out that the backlash (including statements by the P.M.) have caused Coutts to reconsider. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/coutts-apologises-nigel-farage-after-bank-account-closure Here's another article from a U.K.-based site: https://unherd.com/2023/07/coutts-and-the-rise-of-private-tyra...

Re: Ancient meditation systems in Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand?
Could be you are referring to what is known as "boran kammathana","Yogāvacara", or "Esoteric Southern Buddhism". I don't know if there are any active centres of practice. It is a subject of much scholarly interest. This Wikipedia page is quite good. It lists a lot of sc...

Re: Ensuring a more cohesive society (Farage - Coutts bank)
It might be the case that Coutts' story - promulgated by The Guardian - might be less than truthful. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/disgraceful-coutts-de-banked-nigel-farage-because-his-conservative-views-internal-dossier Other Brits have been debanked for their political views... Re: What would you do
There is a story of a baby born as a prince who decided that he didn't want to go through all that again. So he pretended to be a dumb mute. He maintained this for years and eventually his younger brother was appointed heir to the throne; and the then young man was permitted to wander in the forest....

Re: Exclusively doing metta meditation?
Yes there is a very old and respected monk in Bangkok named Ajahn Maha Chatchai... at least I think that's how you spell it. And he might have passed away by now. Anyway, his teaching was mostly metta. He explained how it can take you all the way to 3rd or 4th Jhana, I forget which. AFAIK Ajahn Mah...
