Re: Fear and aversion towards meditation

If I may make a suggestion, invest in a meditation bench, as opposed to a cushion (or even a chair). I use one because my hips are so narrow that lotus is simply unrealistic. A bench prevents a lot of leg pain, aligns the back properly (maintaining lumbar lordosis the way lotus postures do), and if...

Re: Fear and aversion towards meditation

A good trick is to stop before you sit down and note how you feel. Then, at the end of each practice notice how much better you feel. Periodically during your practice, when you feel good, notice and remember that you feel good. Remember this several times a day and remind yourself that mediation i...

Fear and aversion towards meditation

Hello all, It's been three years since I initially became interested in buddhadhamma and thus this also marks the three-year anniversary for my first stabs at meditation. The problem - since day one, to be honest - is that I have quite a lot of fear towards meditation. This mostly manifests as unwil...

Re: Avoidance and Compassion

Another perspective on this is just to be very mindful about the influence of the people surrounding you. You might not be around the most skillful people, but you can watch how they effect you. You don't have to be like them. -M Sound advice :namaste: Having these people around you and treating th...

Re: Joke!!!

Maybe this style, Kare? Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car. I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So...

Re: Who was the youngest Arahat?

Hello , Not sure how old Rahula was when he became enlightened, but I think he may have been older than 7 years: http://www.palikanon.com/namen/r/raahula.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; But Seven years seems to be the youngest age for a few of them: Thag 6.10 When I was...

Re: Is a UK student loan considered debt

I'm in the same boat as marcpiano, only i'm in the usa. My student loans began when I was 15 and started college. I finished graduate school in 2006, and found the dharma in 2007. My interest in ordaining has been growing over the past year. My loans are massive, but in a program where if my income...

Re: Ordination without parents permission, is that possible?

Could they, in those days, distinguis between eczema and a fungal infection? I don't think so, no. In this age, however, the distinction has to be made. Personally I would assume that they are referring to ringworm/other fungal infections instead of eczema, because, as said, eczema requi...

Re: Ordination without parents permission, is that possible?

Hi, may I ask something too? What is meant with this? Have you got eczema? Eczema seems in many cases a harmless and not contageous condition that doesn't require much medical attention...it can come and go. Would it be impossible to ordain if you have a harmless condition that comes and goes? That...
