Re: Pali Dictionaries

Hi, I've been away from the Dhamma Wheel for some years, so maybe the answer to my question is obvious to everyone else here. But I'll chance it: The new multivolume dictionary from PTS is really good, but it is not complete yet. Three volumes have been published. Does anyone know when the next volu...

Pseudobabble wrote: Sat Jul 07, 2018 8:11 am The Buddha makes jokes all the time, the suttas are full of them. You have to read them with a mind for it though. He regularly makes fun of Brahmins, of other contemplatives, of the questioner, of Brahma, and so on. Not mean jokes, but poking fun at obvious silliness.

Re: Gude to Translators for Beginners

Well, the article was aimed at beginners and helping them overcome the problem of where to start. And more importantly to help them overcome the hindrance of doubt when they read all the debates about translations. Personally, I believe that it is more problematic to feel that one must learn Pali t...

Re: German Language | Dhammatexte auf deutsch

Can anyone recommend specific print editions of Sutta translations into German? I am looking for physical books. And it would be great if you could attest to the quality as well. Thanks! As for the Majjhima Nikaya I will highly recommend Kay Zumwinkel, "Die Lehrreden des Buddha aus der Mittler...

Who cares? I care. "This is how he attends inappropriately: 'Was I in the past? Was I not in the past? What was I in the past? How was I in the past? Having been what, what was I in the past? Shall I be in the future? Shall I not be in the future? What shall I be in the future? How shall I be ...

Re: What is my ancestry? who cares.

Who cares? I care. I care about my ancestors. By examining the archives I can follow my ancestors several hundred years back. I can se who they were, their names, where they lived, often also how they lived. A few of them were wealthy, but most of them were poor people, toiling from day to day to se...

If I could travel in time, the first thing I would do, is to desperately try to find the Earth before my oxygen runs out. It travels at great speed through space, so even after a few seconds it would be gone ... :rolleye:

Re: Digital Pali Reader (DPR) software program.

I was wondering if anyone else here is using the Digital Pali Reader program. It works in conjunction with the Firefox browser in offline mode. Learning to use it seems to be quite difficult (at least for me!). I thought that it might be usefull to share tips about how to do things. Nowadays it won...

Here is a list: https://www.travelfish.org/sight_profile/thailand/bangkok_and_surrounds/bangkok/bangkok/1983 When I was there (10 years ago) the Buddhist Bookshop in Phra Sumeru Street (in Thai: Thanon Phra Sumen), directly across from Wat Bovornivet, had a good selection of Buddhist literature.
