Differences in Pali presentation of the 32 Body Parts
Recently I've been looking into the Reflection on the Thirty-Two Body Parts after coming across this post. Thanks Cittasanto for pointing out this resource. I think Bob Stahl's Dhamma Talks are fantastic (see the resources section on http://www.32parts.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);...

Re: The role of faith in Buddhism
you may find this video helpful http://www.vimeo.com/12360941" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a talk by Ven. Aj. Jayasaro. He explains at the start the nature of faith - saddha - in the Buddha's teachings. I personally think the whole talk is delightful, I recommend you list...

Re: New to Buddhism
Hey Marc, welcome :D perhaps there's a Buddhist Centre in your area? I'm from S. Wales and luckily there are a few groups about the place. It's good to have a place where you can go with like-minded people and meditate. I can heartily recommend a weekend retreat, perhaps to somewhere like Amaravati ...

Re: Maranasati (Mindfulness of Death/Charnel Ground Reflection)
I can see how this could be a very powerful contemplation. Just after watching that Channel. 4 anatomy dissection, it's lingered in my imagination. The thought that just underneath the skin there's this mass of muscles and things! Of course I always knew that but I hadn't actually seen the body in t...

Maranasati (Mindfulness of Death/Charnel Ground Reflection)
I would like to learn more about this reflection, how it is practiced in modern times, in monasteries and by meditating lay people. If any one has had experience with this reflection, perhaps if you practice it regularly, it would be great to hear in what ways it might have effected you or deepened ...

Malas as an aid to calming and concentration
Mala beads don't seem to be (widely, at least) used in the Theravada (although I seem to vaguely remember reading something once, on this forum I think, about Thai monks in one monastery using them, although they were kinda made fun of by the monks of other temples haha Can't be sure because I can't...

Hello from Ben, S. Wales, UK
Hi everyone, I've already posted a few things but I thought I'd just introduce myself a little here. I'm Ben from a small town surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Wales. I attend a Triratna Buddhist Community Centre in Cardiff twice a week, a meditation night and 'Sangha night' (meditation/pu...

Re: Pariyatti pati pati pati patipatti pativedha
thanks that cleared it up for me :) interesting the possible meaning of 'foot soldier,' I guess you could say it's a kind of pun? perhaps another example the Buddha using military immagery/combative metaphor for spiritual practice... which would make sense with his Kshatriya background. funny how pa...

Balance of sīla, samādhi and paññā
Ok, so there was already a brief discussion of the relationship between these here But I am a religious studies student in my second year and for the Buddhism module I've chose the essay title: "Discuss the balancing of wisdom, morality and meditation in one, named, living tradition of Buddhism...

Pariyatti pati pati pati patipatti pativedha
This was a Pali expression used in a Ven. Viradhammo talk - Ajahn Viradhammo podcast 12/04/10 'Knowledge, Insight and Practice' (available here or on iTunes.) "Study, practice, practice, practice, practice, develop insight." Listen in at 20:00 min.: "In the Pali you have this idea of ...
