Re: Buddha is fake
I was taught from an early age to question what I don't understand. I don't understand this story, so I questioned it. I meant no disrespect and apologise if the way in which my posts are read does not match my intention. So back to the story, what does 'Buddha is fake' mean? Does it mean that Nibb...

Re: What is Truth?
Truth is a characteristic of statements. So is falsity. Experience can't be either true or false, though we can (and often do) make false statements about it. Reality can't be either true or false, either, though we can (and often do) make false statements about it. Kim Just saw your repl...

Re: What is Truth?
I would say " havent you got something more useful you could be doing instead of getting your head all pointy " ? I don't know why, but after reading some posts I remembered this. "Bhikkhus, a certain foolish man learns the prose sections, prose and verse sections, the ans...

Re: Hi to all.
@ dhamma_spoon Who knows, I may stumble upon some hidden treasure in this aquarium. @bodom That is exactly what I'm looking for. It has happened several times that I couldn't understand a particular thing about the dhamma. Then from nowhere a situation may arise, or someone who may not even...

Re: What is Truth?
Can intention be added to Sid's 'message conveyance'? Even if you intended an implied 'to me' at the end when you said it, if I don't receive that implied message, its a lie for me. No "to me" was implied here. Only an observation is required to attest something as truth. As this can be d...

Re: What is Truth?
Truth is something which is not a lie. Truth and lie belong to the realm of the human conversation. For example, consider the following statements: 1) The sun is a sphere. (Truth) 2) The sun is a cube. (Lie) So a statement is a truth when the right information is conveyed. In other words, truth is a...

Re: Is a belief in rebirth necessary for practice?
As far as I understand, rebirth can be thought of as
1) ending of one mental state & the subsequent arising of the next one
or
2) being dead & then born again.
Belief in the 1st type of rebirth is essential for practice, but not the 2nd one.
