Re: the great rebirth debate
Are you referring to space/time?
Re: KIVA
I saw a TV program about micro loans and it seems that women pay the loans back more reliably than men. Women take the profits from their businesses and spend the money educating their children more than men do. They take any left over money to re-invest in their business more than men do. I find th...
KIVA
For those of you interested in the terrific work impact that microlending can have in peoples lives, I suggest you look into KIVA an American based lending organization that lends world wide. One can start lending with as little as $25 and re-lend when the original loan is paid back. As a lender one...

Re: What did the Buddha have to say about God?
Within Buddhism, in general, "momentariness" - khan.a - is a doctrine of instaneous change. This was not taught in the suttas or even the Abhidhamma Pitaka texts. It is something that got introduced into the Theravada with Buddhaghosa about 1,000 years after the Buddha's death. As has bee...

Re: Defamation of Religion
I cannot stand intolerance :rules: Buddhists shouldn't be worried about such laws. They should not defame other religions anyway. Neither approving, nor disapproving, one should just teach Dhamma. Anti defamation laws curtail free speech. Although the laws are called anti-defamation they are really...

Re: What did the Buddha have to say about God?
The early Theravadins did not, nor is it in the Pali suttas, which means that the Buddha did not, nor is it a matter only being written down with Buddhaghosa. If it had been part of the Theravadin doctrine, it would have shown up long ago before Buddhaghosa. You have offered nothing but your unsupp...

Re: Defamation of Religion
With many of the Tea Party saying that there is no Constitutional separation of church and state, we will soon have religious anti-defamation laws in the USA. Atheists will be further harassed and freedom of speech will be further curtailed. Avowed atheist are not eligible to hold public office in s...

Re: the great rebirth debate
Absolutely. What I have been trying to do is to get people to respond and you have. Thank you. The reason it is important to think about what is reborn, if anything, is that people cling to the idea that they will be reborn. Of course this goes against the very idea of anatta. The problem with this...

Re: the great rebirth debate
With respect, If one should not think about what is reborn because it leads to confusion, then why think about anything from any of the suttas? Are we to sink into blind faith? I believe in rebirth. I believe in kamma. I believe in anatta. I believe in anicca. I believe in everything and understand...

Re: the great rebirth debate
I will just back out of this thread if no one wants to discuss what is reborn in his own words but only wants to refer to the teachings and commentaries.
What a shame since we are in the Dhammic free-for-all forum.

Re: the great rebirth debate
PeterB,
I am not interested in references. I am interested in what other members think. I am interested in personal opinion based on an individual thought process and conclusion (however tentative) on what is reborn.
Do you not have any of your own thoughts on the subject?
