Re: Key to happiness is eating more fruit and veg
Excellent advice. No expert, whether representing received knowledge or alternatives, can do more than offer general advice. We are a complex of genetic loading, conditioning, and history, and as such we are each unique. However pooled knowledge can help us discover what benefits us as individuals.....

Re: Key to happiness is eating more fruit and veg
I think the key term Dr Greger's study is 'constipation related IBS' Ben. As I indicated above the variety of IBS which is linked to a low fibre diet..which tends to constipation may well benefit from a managed increase in soluble fibre..such as that found in kiwi fruit ( or rhubarb ). However there...

Re: Key to happiness is eating more fruit and veg
Hi Ben. Thats the figure quoted by the International Federation for Functional Gastro-Intestinal Disorders..which incidentally is comprised of both physicians and respected researchers in the field as well as sufferers from those conditions. Some estimates put it as high as 15% of the population. IB...

Re: Key to happiness is eating more fruit and veg
Except if you are one of the 10% of the population who suffers from one of the group of disorders, some of them inherited and some acquired, known as IBS ( irritable bowel syndrome ) in which case eating more fruit and veg could substantially decrease your happiness... You could spend half y...

Christian89 I am going to go out on a limb here...Your depression is probably NOT caused by ' the questions you have '. Its probably the other way round.
And as others have suggested, seek help. And I don't mean online.

I also had this constantly.
I found if I was averse to it it grew worse. It still happens occasionally, but now I simply note it and return to my practice, which is a mantra-like phrase linked to the in and out breath.

Re: Are Theravadins Simpler ?
Kindly do not use words like Jesus. It is taking the Lord's name in vain. No reason why we cannot be polite to other religions. Well, it's part of certain colloquial speech phrases in the West, so to that extent it's not taking the Lord's name in vain, it's speaking casually. Besides, "Jesus&q...

Beetroot and especially beetroot juice, can also have a dramatic effect.. :o Hi Peter, Yes, I have heard of that. Incidentally, I actually have four beets in the fridge, so I will be able to see the change in my urine colour quite soon. For the full , lurid, effect Ben take an antacid, like Rennies...

Actually thats true Ben, I have had the same experience.
And yet another brand we sometimes use which purports to have the same content has no effect on the colour of one's wee at all..

Re: getting my water from rice or pasta ?
The best way to gauge whether you are properly hydrated is not so much from intake..that has many variables..but from the colour of your urine. When hydrated your wee will be straw coloured or very light green. Dark yellow/orange or dark green means you need to drink more non alcoholic fluids..prefe...

Re: getting my water from rice or pasta ?
Very very little. Why would you consider that anyway ? Water drinking has become fetishised, but there is no reason not to drink pretty freely. It is doubtful that under most conditions anyone needs to drink water all day and carry little bottles of it. Four or five glasses a day plus tea and a litt...

Re: Problems with "9 Essays: Buddhism & The 12 Steps"
Hi PeterB, ...The interventions will be as effective as the relationship is viable. This is the difference between any critique and actual daily experience. This appears to me to be another false dichotomy and another case of All-Or-Nothing Thinking and overgeneralizing (cf. David D. Burns' cogniti...
