Anyone with similar practices?

Is there somebody doing similar practices? For example, since recently I've started to: - eat only 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner), instead of eating whenever I feel hungry. This helps me to make craving for snacks lesser. Because I eat only 3 times a day now, I want every meal to give me e...

Restrictions for drinking (water, not alcohol)

I know that for monks there are guidelines (restrictions) for eating. Like for example a monk will not eat after noon. Are there guidelines or restrictions for monks too regarding drinking (by this I mean normal drinking, like water, tea, and not alcohol). Can a monk drink as much as he pleases on a...

Re: Name for a new sutta

I didnt expect to get such reactions that calling it a sutta is inappropriate, will have bad consequences, and is disrespectful. I suggest taking a look at your intentions.... My intentions are creating an easy accessable book that gives me a summary of everything that is of interest to me which I h...

Re: Name for a new sutta

Its not a way of removing valuable information, I still have the Digha Nikaya, Majjhima Nikaya, and Samyutta Nikaya in printed bookform on my bookshelf. To me it will be an easy accessable book of about 300 - 500 pages that contains especially that parts of the suttas which I want to read often, so ...

Name for a new sutta

I am currently studying the Sutta Pitaka. The Digha Nikaya, Majjhima Nikaya, and Samyutta Nikaya I was able to buy in book format. They together are more than 4500 pages. Then there is also Anguttara Nikaya and Khuddaka Nikaya. Some of the teachings are very valuable to me, some of the teachings is ...

No difference...

Yesterday I made a post called "no difference..." and some people replied on it. But today the post seems to be deleted?
I wanted to read the replies in more detail, but it seems to be missing now...

No difference...

I think this is a good argument: As Buddha said - "if there is no rebirth, there is no living the holy life". The explanation of this statement is this: if there in only one life - no need to practise deep renunciation from the world. No need to be a monk. No need to accumulate kamma, no n...

Cannot believe in magical things

I try to practice what is written in the suttas (http://www.accesstoinsight.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), because I think it is useful. But even though the suttas contain a lot of wisdom, I still keep finding unbelievable things about: - a world of gods, deva's - reb...

Do monks have hobbies?

This question came up my mind tonight.
"Do ordained monks have hobbies and spend time doing there hobbies?"

Hobbies could be all non-Dhamma related activities. Reading books like thrillers, painting landscapes, sports, anything else you can come up with?

Any idea?

Re: Bad hair days

Why not go the middle way... Instead of completely bald you can shave your hair down to about 1 centimeter. Its convienent, never have to spend time doing your hair, because its still to short to groom it, you dont look bald, and you never have to spend money at the barberer. Buy an eletronic shaver...

Sutta about importance of good health

I was wondering if there are suttas that explain the benefits and importance of keeping your body healthy.
