Re: How to Write Mindfully
Dear PaulGar, it is good to observe the sitting position all the time, not only for the physical benefit, it needs also a big amount of mindfulness. Also to observe once own breath is a good training. Special in Theravada the focus is not on sitting meditation, one can/should train mindfulness all ...

Re: How to Write Mindfully
This is an excellent idea and very worthwhile to post, in my estimation. Of course, simple physical tasks were the meditation object of choice of Buddhist monasteries (e.g. Zen monks raking sand). So, just like you said, you can pause to have mindfulness of the sensations of typing or the posture o...

Re: How to Write Mindfully
Hello, PaulGar, I approve of your attempt! It's worth persisting with, for both practical and spiritual benefits, I think. You seem to be equating 'mindfulness' with monitoring your physical state. That is something I try to be aware of, and it has improved with time: if I slouch, I now notice and ...

How to Write Mindfully
I work as a freelance writer so this means that I spend about ten hours a day hammering away on the keyboards. I find that for most of this time I'm lost in thought and not very mindful at all. I’ve been wondering about the possibility of writing mindfully; in fact I've been trying to do this by usi...

Re: The Benefits of Guided Meditation
Thanks for the links guys; I'll check them out. I also hope somebody can suggest something for kaktus.
I would be interested in hearing other people's experience with guided practice - is it just something that is only suitable for beginners?

The Benefits of Guided Meditation
I have a regular meditation practice, but I've been wondering about the benefits of supplementing this with some type of guided meditation. One part of my practice that I neglect is cultivating metta, and I wonder if some type of guided loving kindness meditation might help with this. I would be int...

Re: Meditation without timers
I know a lot of monks will meditate for the time it takes a joss stick to burn. This is probably an imprecise measurement tool, but it seems to work for a lot of people.

Re: 10,000 Hours to Meditation Master
2 mins of mindfulness is better than 2 hours of meditation without mindfulness. My meditation teacher has a habit of breaking us out of our "urge" to sit long hours. When we settle onto our cushions ready for a long sit, he will come along and make us feed the fishes, or something. Reason...

Re: 10,000 Hours to Meditation Master
If you meditated for two hours a day it would take about 14 years of practice. If you practice mindfulness meditation during all your waking hours you will get there much sooner. :anjali: If I also did a bit of lucid dream meditation then maybe I could become an Arahant before the New Year ...

10,000 Hours to Meditation Master
I know that there can be no real exact figure put on the amount of time that it would take somebody to become proficient at meditation; after all people will progress at different rates. I also realise that just clocking up the hours isn't the best way to approach meditation (a bit unBuddhist), but....

Re: Dropping of the 'R'
Thank You Tiltbillings for the answer. I knew it was a dialect change, just not the details. I'm a sticker for knowing detail. O like the fact that it stays within the older texts, that leads me to believe a more true translation. :) Hi Paul :) I'm new to this sangha as well, and have been treated ...

Re: Dropping of the 'R'
I think the fact that the 'R' is dropped in Pali is a good thing for those living in some Buddhist countries. Thais in particular have a real problem pronouncing R
