I find on the internet a quote says: "Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without" which is attributed to the Buddha, but I can't find which sutta or Pali text it comes from.

Re: Buddha's skin colour
I find this thread from an article on Dhammawiki.com (http://dhammawiki.com/index.php?title=The_Buddha%27s_physical_appearance" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) which says that "He (The Buddha) was about six feet tall (S.I,62)" Does anyone know which sutta is S.I,62...

Re: Yasodhara and Rahula
The great Buddhist scholar Andre Bareau has written a most fascinating article on the Yasodhara legends which is now available at http://www.buddha-kyra.com/wife.htm . Kyra Pahlen, who translated this article from French did a rather poor job - Kathmandu instead of Kapilavatthu, Mahavasti instead of...

Re: [ASK] What Sutta It Is????
I am going to suggest that the quote isn't discoverable as it doesn't exist in the Suttas. It was probably an incorrect paraphrase - I wonder which Buddhist magazine, and when, because perhaps we could search there directly... Greetings, Indeed... it sounds like a misquote of SN 45.2. Metta...

[ASK] What Sutta It Is????
I remember when I am still on my school-age, I ever read a sutta quotation on a Buddhis magazine like this: Ananda said to the Buddha that half of holy life is love (metta). But the Buddha told him that entire holy life is love. But what I mean is not Upaddha Sutta (SN 45.2) that says "Entire h...

Re: Which texts did the Mahāsāṃghikas dispute?
For accounts of the divisions of early Buddhist schools, it really pays not to use the history of one school alone (be it any school). All of them are somewhat biased in their own favor (naturally!) Rather, it requires a careful study of all the material. I recommend the studies of Bareau (1955) an...

No, Asoka is not a cakkavatti (ruler of the world), but dipacakkavatti (ruler of the continent, i.e Jambudipa or continent of west) : Hi Seniya, how about this, i found at Dīpavaṃsa : asokadhammo ‘bhisitto paṭiladdhā ca iddhiyo, mahātejo puññavanto dīpe cakkapavattako [/b] [asokadhamma, after his c...

Re: Buddhapadana: Influence from Mahayanist????
@pannasikhara: Today I have an message from Samaneri Pannadevi on a Buddhist forum in my country. She said that you are a Buddhist monk and it isn't polite to call Ven. Pannasikhara as "bro". At that time, I really didn't know the truth. Now I'm feel very sory for calling Bhante in such an...

Re: Buddhapadana: Influence from Mahayanist????
Yes, similar to some Mahayana material. However, in the title of this thread, you use the phrase "Buddhapadana: Influence from Mahayanist????", but which way does the influence lie? When we look at the basic time periods of this material, we will see that much of it is actually before the...

Re: Sanna Sutta
in the Sanna Sutta it says, "When a monk's awareness often remains steeped in the perception of the unattractive, his mind shrinks away from the completion of the sexual act, " I'm curious about the "completion of the sexual act"....I guess it means orgasm....I've never heard of...

Re: Was Asoka a cakkavatti emperor?
Asoka is called a dīpacakkavatti as opposed to padesarājās like Bimbisāra and Pasenadi (Sp.ii.309). I'm not sure, but I don't think that is saying that he is not a cakkavatti. Dīpa means lamp, thus, that appears to be saying he is a 'lamp of a cakkavatti.' Dīpa = island = continent. PTSD (323-4): D...

Re: Was Asoka a cakkavatti emperor?
No, Asoka is not a cakkavatti (ruler of the world), but dipacakkavatti (ruler of the continent, i.e Jambudipa or continent of west): Asoka .-King of Magadha. He was the son of Bindusāra. Bindusāra had sixteen wives who bore him 101 sons. The chief Pāli sources of information regarding Asoka are Dīpa...
