Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity
Just because current Indians have a certain look, doesn't necessarily mean all Indians 2,600 years ago looked the same. Nor does it mean they looked different; we can't know for sure. I actually quite enjoy that we do not know how the Buddha looked like, because in this modern time, where ethnicity...

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity
Bowing down to an Enlightened one has nothing to do with their ethnicity. Unfortunately, a person's race/ethnicity/caste/color/social status matters in ancient India. For example, in the Aggañña Sutta, the Buddha asked 2 Brahmins about all the insults they had to endure...According to Rh...

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity
There are suttas where people meet the Buddha and don't recognise him, even those who knew of the Dhamma and followed it. If he was truly of remarkable appearance, word of that would've surely spread and that would not have happened. See, for example https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.1...

Re: The subject of "Buddha-Nature" in Theravada Buddhism. What unites Buddhists?
Buddha-Nature is sort of like the Christian idea of "original sin", but with a positive twist. The idea that people are inherently good is a Mahayana concept and is foreign to Theravada Buddhism. Sure, we have our disagreements, but we have more in common...the beautiful thing about Buddhi...

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity
All my posts are backed by genetics...Northern Europe has more steppe ancestry than other parts of Europe. What this view has to do with the Buddha's ethnicity? I think the Buddha very likely looks like vasala or caṇḍāla . https://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=748791#p748791 So the "lion...

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity
Racial propaganda? Are you kidding me? I've been fascinated with the physical appearance of the Buddha even before I joined Dhamma Wheel. The genetic evidence makes it pretty clear... Yes, in my opinion what you are doing in that post and in general is racial (or racist) propaganda . And the most i...

Re: Your Dhamma Verses Here.
This is a thread for your own inspired dhamma verses or utterance. I'll start. "Do not just refine the gold given, ask where it was found." "One by one, little by little, moment by moment, a wise man should remove his own impurities, as a smith removes his dross from silver. " h...

Re: Buddha appear lagging behind Jesus & Mohammed
It seems a unsurpassable person like the Buddha are not that popular , famous or well known compared to Jesus and Mohammed . It seems both Jesus and Mohammed followers are outnumbered the Buddha . Would it be possible buddhism try to catch up with them ? What do you know about this? Just ask for fo...

This says it all...nosnostratos wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:31 pm It's pretty wild how things are changing, huh? More folks are saying "none" when it comes to religion nowadays. Buddhism might have a shot, being more about inner peace and all.

Re: Orthodox Christian criticism of Buddhism
I'm subbed to an orthodox YouTube channel and earlier today he dropped a video criticizing eastern religions. https://youtu.be/1WpalRU46tw?si=kueFdVsf4kxk--gt He has a guest who goes over how eastern religions have it wrong and explains the differences like Buddhism doesn't believe in a soul but Hi...

Re: Ajahn Martin is Despondent
Ajahn Martin Piyadhammo, who was trained by Ajahn Maha Bua, has announced he is about to walk away into the forest far from Western monks who are entitled and not practicing Dhamma, nor treating him like a Luang por Mother/Father, or respecting the Monastery. He is a great Dhamma teacher and says h...
