Do all braches of Buddhism believe in reincarnation?
Reincarnation is something I struggle with. I was talking to my meditation teacher he says that all branches of Buddhism believe in reincarnation in one form or another. While I've really become quite taken with Buddhist teachings and have a fondness for meditation...I cannot understand the concept ...

Re: Fasting and frugality in food
An attachment to food, like you said, is very common. Just a thought for you, I attempted to keep busy and try to think less about food...which resulted in me getting food on the go, less healthy foods. I think in this practice it's important to be mindful of what you're eating and ask your self how...

Re: Tattoo?
So you're not a practicing Buddhist and you want to know if it might be disrespectful for you to get a tattoo of a Buddhist symbol? I wouldn't say so. There are different symbols which really have a nice meaning behind them...like the lotus, for instance. If anything it's respectful to different asp...

Re: Sexual Misconduct
Hi Phil, Having a sense of humor regarding sex is usually fine with me, unless it's making light of issues such as rape (which you were not, of course). I am new to sex and just thought I'd ask about sexual misconduct. I'm not super young, I put it off for a long time because I was considering waiti...

Thanks...I just bought that one mentioned above on amazon.zavk wrote:Oh and any of those many books on the cultural history of Buddhism in America will invariably mention the Beats and Buddhism. So you should have plenty of resources for your essay.
Are the Beats big down in Australia and NZ?

Re: Allen Ginsberg
Hi VeganLiz I'm not well-versed in Ginsberg as such. But you should easily find resources on the web and certainly in your university library on the 'Beat Generation'. There is this book on the Beat Generation and Buddhism: http://www.amazon.com/Big-Sky-Mind-Buddhism-Generation/dp/1573225010" ...

Isn't a personal reflection of our thoughts sort of a form of meditation it's self?
Or not.
Or not.

Re: Sexual Misconduct
That is true....sex involves lust.
But I do agree that it's important to re-examine feelings behind sex. Like she/he said, if you're having sex out of fear of being alone it is not entirely sincere or honest to the person you're with.

Allen Ginsberg
I was given a list of people in my beat literature class to write about...and Allen Ginsberg was on that list. The essay question asks about Ginsberg's involvement with Buddhism!!!! Personally I don't know that much about him so I was wondering if maybe you guys had read anything of his that mention...

Re: Sexual Misconduct
About casual sex, my opinion is the Buddhist teaching would not generally support such behaviour. The reasons are many, such as: (1) the motivation is primarily lust; at times loneliness; (2) virtues, such as love, compassion, relationship skills, etc, are not developed; and (3) insecurity or ungro...
