Recovery
Are there any members in recovery here? Either substance abuse or behavioural addictions? I go to AA plus Recovery Dharma. Would be cool to reach out to other members in recovery.

Is Theravada anti creativity?
I read an article somewhere that Theravada is anti creativity, whereas Zen is pro creativity, hence the amount of Zen poems and Zen poets there are out there. Do you believe this is true? I ask because I am a poet and a singer/Songwriter yet I seem to be more drawn to Theravada teachings, particular...

Insomnia
I've had issues with insomnia my whole life, and while meditation can often help with my anxiety issues, I still have real problems with falling asleep. Can anyone offer any suggestions or tips with this? I'd be especially keen to hear of any Buddhist techniques, mantra's etc that might help. I thin...

Brian Ruhe
I'm not sure where to post this, but I wanted to because I have been searching over youtube and a man named Brian Ruhe seems to be all over the place on theravada buddhihist video's. He claims he used to be a Buddhist Monk and is now a lay teacher. I remember a while back not liking his style, as he...

Re: Thich Nhat Hanh on rebirth
He teaches both moment to moment and literal rebirth. In my opinion he has a traditional view on rebirth.

Sam Harris embodies two words... 'Passive aggressive'. The guy is a joke and I don't know why so many people take him seriously.

Re: The necessity of faith in rebirth to drive practice?
I don't reject rebirth but I don't accept it either. I've listened to many talks by Ajahn Sumedho who always tells people who ask him what happens after death that he doesn't know cos he's not dead yet. There's a story like this in Zen too. I personally think it's arrogant to claim one way or the ot...

Buddhist tales
Where in the Pali canon are the Buddhist stories or tales? I.e the story of the Buddha in a past life giving his body freely to a Tiger and her Cubs for food?

Re: the great rebirth debate
Is it controversial these days to talk about people who are reborn into disabled bodies as a result of their Karma? I listened to a talk by Ajahn Sumedho who wouldn't be drawn into this debate, claiming that it is speculative and not worth thinking about, but I have read Buddhist texts which claim t...

Hindu influences
At the Buddhist temple I have gone to a few times now, which is in the Sri Lankan tradition there seems to be just as many Hindu works of art and statue's than Buddhist pieces. There's a a Ganesha statue, paintings of Shiva, Hunuman, Durga, Lakshmi etc. Is this quite common in Therevada or is this a...

Is Ajahn Brahm...
...turning his back on the more aesthetic elements of the Thai forest tradition? Although he seems fond of Ajahn Chah and his time in Thailand, he seems to diss it quite a bit too. He seems to make it all a lot more accessible for his lay community and to his Monks. I even heard him do a talk on his...

I have been told that this film is about the Six realms of existence. Can anyone verify this?
Who has seen this film and can you draw parallels between the concepts in the film and the six realms of existence?
