Re: Did Buddha categorically denied the existence of an eternal self or a separate self?
Hi dear friends, Nice to be back! Just hopping by. Sorry, I know I'm repeating some things others already have written, but here's some of my thoughts. The Buddha DID categorically deny any self because 'sabbe dhamma anatta' means 'everything is without a self' (I.e. there is no self in anything.) i...

Re: Quantum physics proves their IS an Afterlife
This is nothing more than a wrong understanding of quantum physics, perhaps combined with wishful thinking. Again, it is the detector APPARATUS (aka machine) that changes the behavior of particles in a double slit experiment. The apparatus (for example a light source) changes the momentum of the pa...

Re: Quantum physics proves their IS an Afterlife
Lanza cites the double-slit test, pictured, to backup his claims. When scientists watch a particle pass through two slits, the particle goes through one slit or the other. If a person doesn't watch it, it acts like a wave and can go through both slits simultaneously. This means its behaviour change...

Re: Was this an unpleasant side effect...?
To me the breath also usually becomes the central point of awareness after a gentle body awareness. That's because the breath is the most prominent sensation in the body, so that's where my attention is drawn to. I am not sure what the excitement feeling was, but I wouldn't give it importance. Just ...

Re: Bhavanga/ citta after parinibbana?
Pari-nibbana is where existence ceases; the cessation of the aggregates. There is no consciousness, feeling, perception, etc. This I think should answer all your questions.

In my eyes the bhikkhuni order has never been really gone. But I would like to see it grow more and I think that's what starter means with 'revive'.

Re: Past Life Study: Cognitive Science of Religion
Interesting, I didn't know that. Could you reference it, I'd like to take a look at it. "To tell an unordained person of one's actual superior human attainments is [an offence of Confession.]" http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/ariyesako/layguide.html I am quite sure past life rec...

Re: Past Life Study: Cognitive Science of Religion
Does anyone know of any monks that have disclosed that they have remembered some or all of their past lives? Such instances are mentioned in the suttas multiple times, Buddha even talks about ascetics and contemplatives with no connection to his teaching remembering their past lives. There is a dis...

Re: Buddhism and logic?
for example how virtue leads to happiness, we may begin to have some faith in the path. But, logically looking at it :D , Buddhism is not the only path that propagates virtue and where virtue leads to happiness. Having faith in the Buddhist path because of that makes no sense, being that there are ...

Today Carlsen played like a computer. Move after move he followed the computer's advise in a game with many deep lines, amazing. Anand was doing well, but at a certain point he started making some small mistakes which accumulated into a loss.

Re: Buddhism and logic?
Hi, First of all I'd like to say it is not about fully accepting or fully discarding. One can also accept certain parts and not accept others. Then also, the "seeing for oneself" is not saying we have to see the entire path and results of the Buddha. Ideally of course, yes, but if we just ...

Re: Ending of a relationship
Hi, Welcome to the forum. Why did you feel averted to him? The Buddha said we should choose our friends and partners wisely. If a partner is not supportive or helpful, it may be for the best to break up. The following is an exaggeration, but desperately trying to hold onto a relationship, just for t...

Re: Hello
Hi welcome!
Many people who do not consider themselves Buddhist in any way do get a lot out of some Buddhist teachings, so that's totally fine. You may want to shy away from some discussions, though. But admittedly I often also do.

Re: Buddhism and logic?
do not go by ... logical reasoning, by inferential reasoning, by reasoned cogitation, by the acceptance of a view after pondering it, Did I understand that correctly- Buddha actually says that one shouldn't use logic and rational inquiry? He doesn't say that we should totally ignore it, but the poi...

Re: Brian Ruhe and Representation
Well talking about not identifying with labels - I actually think that is an important thing on some levels. (But do think taking refuge etc are good things.) In my eyes we could turn this teachings around into something useful. Maybe anybody who feels offended is attached to belonging to a group or...
