Re: Blong abat - Thai version

I needed the Thai version of the Blong Abat (covering with grass) - in any script. It is different from the Burmese version. But I got it from a Library today - first time the Libraary beat Google!

Blong abat - Thai version

Can anyone help me track down the Thai version of the 'Blong Abat' - confession and forgiveness between the monks.

I did search the forum but no hits.

Many thanks

Re: sutta reference for sankhara as mental states

all interesting views for sure. But I want to ask, specifically, in regards to common definitions like "the mental-formation group (sankhāra-kkhandha)" The only reference I can find to such is the Visuddhimagga. I want to know if there are any suttas you know of that define sa.nkhaara as m...

Re: sutta reference for sankhara as mental states

Excellent thanks. An interesting, if unusual take on khandhas.

Specifically though, is there any sutta that defines sankhara khandha as being mental states? That would seem to be the standard definition used, yet I can't seem to find a single sutta (not commentary) that supports it.

sutta reference for sankhara as mental states

Hi, I am trying to write my thesis. I have come to the definitions of sankhara, one of which is 'mental states' (and other translations) specifically in the 5 khandha. Is there any sutta reference defining sankhara specifically in the 5 khandha? I can't find one. Note I'm not looking for definitions...

Re: Bangkok Post Writer's endless acidity

Well put Seery. Sanitsuda likes to take a current (and real) incidnet and make sweeping generalisations under the cover of journalism, deliberately trying to poison the public opinion. She paints pictures of rife homosexuality, drugs, corruption, greed etc.. and endlessly calls for change, without a...

Re: MN Session 8 - MN 41. Sāleyyaka Sutta: The Brahmins of Sālā

Yes, the idea of the 7 days limit on laylife after ordination was introduced in the Visudhimagga so far as I know. It has no Sutta counterpart. The gist of the idea is that without a means to gain food you would not survive - no supernatural reasons are given for the spontaneous death. This sutta, a...

Re: Bangkok Post Writer's endless acidity

Well, I did say Thailand is a mainstay of Theravada, not the mainstay. It is odd how polite Thai people can be, but give them a newspaper column (in this case) or a car and politelness is replaced with something less endearing. Nathan - good luck for when you are in Thailand. Around Bangkok if there...

Bangkok Post Writer's endless acidity

Regarding Thailand: Have you seen that Sanitsuda - an aging writer at the Bangkok Post - has been launching more acidic articles aimed at Buddhism in Thailand. Writing about a particular story is one thing, but she springboards every story into a generalised and bitter attack on Thai Buddhism. http:...
