Re: Working in Entertainment -- a Right Livelihood question

Films can pander to defilements. Films can also spread teachings. Depends on your intention and perspective.

With respect, more like a shaggy dog story.

Re: Who has verified rebirth personally?

A friend's father passed on about 10 years ago. 3 years later, a child was born in the family. When the child was about 2-3 years old and very ill, my friend's mother took care of him. In his delirious state, the child suddenly called out to his grandmother (my friend's mother) by a pet name that on...

Re: Suggestions/advice about starting a group meditation session

Hi Zavk, A few years ago, together with a few friends, we set up a monthly group meditation. We had much to consider prior to doing this. Questions like did we have what it takes to manage situations that would disrupt normal meditation? Were we, ourselves, committed enough to dedicate this time? Ar...

Re: Taking Notes After Meditation

My first teacher also did not encourage notes taking. My subsequent teacher did. The danger about note taking, in the form of keeping a diary of every single sitting, is that the imaginative mind will try to come up with new things every time, or the mind will try to value add to what actually happe...

Re: Where Are the Ven's Robes?

The point is not to say whose fault it was...whether the Venerable was forced to do it, or he agreed to do it. This has shown how much the Dhamma has degenerated - not to the disrespect of the Venerable - to a point such that politics and statuses are able to command religious behaviour at their fan...

Where Are the Ven's Robes?

I was reading the buddhistchannel.tv when I chanced upon this article on how a Buddhist monk had to don layman's wear to receive a title.

I don't quite know how to react.

That's what I think they are...you can vaguely see the details of a "being"...however, they look strangely Thai!!

Re: Flooding in Australia, everyone okay?

The temple I visited in Melbourne 2 years ago was struck twice by flooding in the last 6 months. Not sure if they were affected by the current flooding in Victoria. In any case...take care, friends in Australia/Brazil/anywhere else there's a natural calamity!! Be brave in the face of danger. May the...

Nice picture.

By any chance you have a link to the original post & file? I'm wondering about the background of the photo...like under what occassion/condition it was taken, etc.

Thanks.

Re: Meditation 'plateaus' at home?

Things have calmed down a bit now so I'm sitting daily for 45 minutes, but feel that my progress has plateaued. I'm doing anapanasti, though find it difficult to focus on the sensations of the breath as I have a chronically blocked nose (which I'm having treatment for). Just a basic level of samadh...

Re: Colloquial Question for Thai Bhantes/Buddhists

Thanks for that Bhante.

It's interesting that this term is used quite freely in thai teachings. I thought a glimpse of nibbana was what you got when you hit stream entry. Guess I thought wrong haha. I heard "ni-pan noi" mentioned in the same conversation as achieving sunnata in meditation.
