Re: namaste and anjali

I have to be honest, I find namaste a little bit, not cheesy but overused(?) because of how often its used in new age circles by people trying to sound more "spiritual".

Re: Will you choose him?

*checks to see if I am on Dharma wheel* Nope. Why are you "testing" people? I probably would choose someone who didn't waste their time scralling on the walls. Because firstly it shows they respect the monastery, secondly it shows they are busy practising the dhamma rather than showing off...

Re: 1000 Bhikkhunis in the World

This is all very convoluted, or as our Zen friends would say, focusing on the fingers and not the moon. It's probably best in this case to focus on the spirit of the law not the letter of the law. I see no reason why bhikkuni's can't have a bhikkuni ordination to establish the lineage. If the Buddha...

The Buddha and his teachings is an excellent book by ven narada. You can read it on Buddhanet too.

Re: McMindfulness meditation dangers

I do see your point in the op (too sleepy to read all the thread apologies) but I do see the work of kabat zim and others as very useful. mindfulness based therapies for pain management, especially the ever so tricky neurological pain and for depression and I feel that in centres for pain management...

Re: Mahayana and Theravada Pantheism

But the OP was actually about pantheism, i.e. the notion of the universe identified as a sentient being which could be called "God". Yes, and there is a real difference between 'pantheism' and 'theism'. I can't recall anything, anywhere in any of the Asian religious traditions that I know...

Re: Cloned donor organs.

I would sign, I take gelatin coated capsules when I take some pills. I would use pig insulin and things like that if it meant staying alive. I take medicine knowing full well that it was tested on animals. However I would probably feel pretty disgusted at myself. However if it was someone else, say ...

Re: Drama Wheel

Dharma wheel itself seems far more contentious, I think its partly because of a few posters I have observed plus it represents a few different sects. It feels less welcoming there and people seem less tolerant, i always expect the greater vehicle to be more accessible.

Re: Buddhists atheists ?

Stephen Batchelor does not deny that the Buddha taught Rebirth. He says that he, Batchelor has no personal knowledge of Rebirth and so puts it to one side. Which seems to be in my eyes very honest. Of course he does . In his previous book Buddhism without out beliefs Batchelor was agnostic about Ka...

Location Matheesha Location :jumping: (Where people are the most, that's where Dhamma should be made available, in my POV) That's what seems to happen in practice, in the UK centres and groups tend to be in the cities and large towns. Which is fine unless you live in the country. ;) Spiny Even then...

Re: Buddhists atheists ?

Firstly to clarify atheism its a lack of a belief in a god, you can believe in ghosts fairies, and in invisible pink unicorns, and still be an atheist, you can believe in rebirth and still be atheist. I'm not sure where brahmas and devas fall on the deity thing. Anyway personally I am a sceptic its ...
