Re: A secluded endeavor...
Hi SeekingDharma, If you look around you may be able to find monasteries or lay organisations that offer weekend retreats, sometimes as an option to stay for the first weekend of a longer retreat. I've done a number of two and three day retreats, and while longer retreats do allow a deeper level of...

A secluded endeavor...
I have been wanting to join a retreat for some time, but my current circumstances do not allow it (and likely won't for at least a few years). I can get away for a day or two per month, though. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to maximize this time? Should I simply seclude myself and med...

Here's a fun one....(Yes, a UFO thread)
I've seen this topic pop up every now and again. I'm sure there are plenty of viewpoints on the topic, but I thought the video was interesting and wanted to share it.

A question on my meditation experience
Hello Friends, I recently experienced something new in meditation. I do not think it was necessarily a profound experience, but as it was quite new and unexpected I thought I would make a post and hear from a wiser crowd. When I first started meditating my mind was extremely busy, and looking back I...

This was incredibly fascinating, thank you for posting! Does anybody know if the "Notes on Dhamma" are available online?

Re: 10-day goenka retreat
Hello delf, I've read the same reviews as I was making this same decision. I am enthusiastically signed up for a February retreat and very much looking forward to it. For fear of an incorrect assumption, I'll defer to others with actual experience to say whether or not they feel it is worth it. If y...

Re: Metta Meditation
Hello SeekingDharma, I know how you feel - I used to feel the same way. One of the things with metta is that you are 'pervading' metta, not just repeating words or verbalising intentions. I found Ajahn Brahms suggestions very helpful to initiate metta. It may, or may not, be helpful for you. Ajahn ...

Metta Meditation
I have been attempting to practice metta meditation this past week, something I have never done before. I have reviewed the thoughts and try to cultivate the thoughts, "May I be happy, May I be well, May I be safe, May I be peaceful and at ease." As I do this for myself, or others, the wor...

Re: evil person or just evil actions?
I suppose there is no better example than Angulimala (MN 86). He became enlightened and certainly wasn't evil past that point. Speaking in general, though, I think it is hard to turn the evil ship around. After enduring suffering, or just being inclined towards misdeed, most are unlikely to change w...

Re: Any recommandation for a good book on meditation?
Without a doubt the best that I have read is Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana. You may find others that you prefer after diving in, but I've never heard a meditator regret the read.

Re: Difficult Points In Buddhism
I already did a bit of a search. The following excerpt from this Interview with Alex Bunardzic leads me to think that the author doesn't really know much about the subject matter he is trying to criticize (emphasis added). My book is about certain difficult points in Buddhism. There appears to be a...
