Re: icr cream or not ice cream

If you are simply worried about the caffeine, then eat a flavor other than chocolate. Vanilla, strawberry or any of the other many flavors with no chocolate.

Re: Is vegetarianism even healthy?

I, too, am a happy, healthy vegetarian for many decades. Clearly it does not affect my health as I regularly work eleven hour shifts, with much of the work of the physical variety. Supplements can be had cheaply, should you desire to take them, but a a well balanced vegetarian diet should give you e...

Re: Waterboarding is how America baptizes terrorists

As a citizen of the United States of America, I consider Sarah Palin to be our national disgrace. It is she and others like her that give the world the impression that we are truly evil people. As a woman, it is even more troubling to me to hear this sort of thing from another woman. Maybe I foolish...

Re: Renouncing INTERNET thread -

Actually, the internet has given me a lot of good things. The ability to research antique books and documents easily, for my work. The ability to learn new things at little or no cost. I have availed myself of several learning sites. The ability, through the local library's internet presence, to dow...

Re: The importance of Sobriety for advancing on the Path.

I think that it is not so much a matter of abstaining from alcohol and other intoxicants as it is embracing sobriety and all the positive that comes with sobriety.

Thank you for the link to 'truth or fiction'. I was horrified when I saw the video, thinking it was real. Of course, today it is very easy to fake anything.

Re: Jury service

I will not serve on a jury. At my age, thankfully I no longer have to. But the reason is that I cannot be responsible for incarcerating another human being who may well be innocent. Causing him/her untold pain and suffering. Even if guilty, American prisons do not rehabilitate, they are there to pun...

Re: After all, what would make it be a religion?

I think I have always thought of Buddhism as a life practice. I think of religion as blindly following a set of teachings, at the heart of which is, almost always, a specific deity or deities who is/are worshiped. A deity that controls us in some way, as opposed to Buddhism which seems to teach cert...

Re: Abortion

I have always felt that the whole subject of abortion could be avoided if we human beings could be rational and accept that young women have sex and plan accordingly. Meaning preventing conception in the first place. In today's modern world contraception should be free and available to anyone who wi...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

About that whole living in Alaska thing. A dear friend lived in Tok, Alaska for several years. She was vegetarian. She had a large greenhouse thing going and grew all sorts of veggies all year. In addition, and this was back in the sixties when it was more difficult, she ordered large amounts of whe...

Re: Violent sports

Don't violent sports endanger life? Do not these athletes shorten their lives and the lives of their opponents? Rodeo for sure hurts animals. Horse racing is known for horrific treatment of animals. I am just a person trying to live a life guided by Buddhist principles and I thought that included re...

Re: Feeling out of touch with people

I would suggest that you seek friends through doing what you can to help others. Volunteer in a hospital, nursing home, animal shelter, library or ? and you will encounter others who wish to make a positive difference in the world. These may turn out to be positive friendships. I do not think that i...

Re: the 5th precept

Would not decaffinated coffee and tea solve the problem? My late husband loved green tea but had a blood pressure issue that was worsened by caffeine so he drank decaf green tea, both hot and iced, and found it to be a fine substitute. Is not decaf tea and coffee available everywhere? Or is it still...

Re: Potential wasp nest problm

A couple of years ago that happened to me and I tried to remove the nest. I was stung many times and ended up at urgent care. Cost hundreds of dollars. I had a allergic reaction and er doc said that is common with multiple wasp stings. I now use a deterrent every spring so that they do not build nes...
