Logistics of Getting to and from Forest Dhamma Monastery

I am going to visit Ajaan Dick at the Forest Dhamma Monastery for a couple weeks.

There isn't any info about the logistics of getting to and from the monastery from Lexington Airport.

Has anyone else made this trip?

How did you get to and from the monastery?

Re: Ordination first steps

Here's a pdf of the buddhist monastic code. I'd start by reading it: http://www.dhammatalks.org/Archive/Writ ... 130123.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pali chanting guide, Now with audio!

Hi all, I finally got around to embedding the audio with the chanting booklet used at Wat Metta found here: http://dhammatalks.org/chant_index.html I didn't touch the text itself I just made it more navigable on computer's and tablets. I made 2 versions: I cross linked the table of contents so peopl...

Re: Do Buddhist believe in god?

This may help: Achaan Chah asked a monk who was leaving if he was planning to teach when he got back to the West. No, he had no particular plans to teach Dharma, he replied, although if someone asked, he would do his best to explain how to practice. "Very good," Achaan Chah said, "it ...

How do I stop cycling back into worldliness?

So I have a problem in my practice: I vacillate from being really into the practice to being pulled into more worldly concerns. I will get some solid momentum going in my meditation sitting for an hour in the morning and the evening and keeping my citta on a pretty short leash during the day. Then a...

Re: Higher power

The Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha can be seen as a higher power, and going for refuge can be seen as committing oneself to a higher power. Here's a good book on the act of going for refuge: http://dhammatalks.org/Archive/Writings/refuge_v120116.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Respect for Buddha images and offensive use of symbols

There's a head shop in Boulder called Buddha's Gouda. My kilesas came up when a girl from it offered me a coupon for 50% off a glass pipe.

Re: Science maps samsara

Yep,

I like to think the 5th demension is decisons in front of us while the 6th is those behind us. 5th seems to have important relevence for karma. The metaphore of the flatlander traveling in 3d space is a good way of visualizing it.

Re: Meditation Retreat High

I think it's quite common the first few times, everything is fresh and new and quite a contrast with how your life has been (it's much like your first kiss)... wait till you do a monthlong. I think I'd black out and wake up in a strange place with no idea of how I got there with that much meditation.

Re: Meditation Retreat High

I have been meditating on and off for about 5 years and this is my first retreat in a long time. It was just 8 hours of meditation though I'm starting to "come down" now. Your post helped a lot, it seems to make sense that more intense practice takes getting used to.

Founding a Forest Monestary

I live in Boulder Colorado and there is a large insight community here. I follow the teachings of Thai forest masters and have read the stories of some of the monasteries founded in Australia, the UK and in California. I was wondering what actions I could take to help create the conditions for a for...

Meditation Retreat High

I just did a daylong meditation retreat and I feel almost inebriated with mental brightness. I had trouble driving home because I was distracted by the feelings of mental brightness and forgot my meditation cushion and had to go back. When I finally got home I had trouble getting anything done. Has ...
