Re: Sutta reference about bhikkhuni ordination by both sangh

Thanks to all, my gratitude :anjali:

I didn't aware it is hinted in the 6th rule of eight garudhammas:
When, as a probationer, she has trained in the six rules (cha dhamma) for two years, she should seek higher ordination from both Orders.

I have asked this question in ajahn brahm's bhikkhuni ordination thread but none answer, so I ask again here hopefully there will be an answer.

Anyone can show me vinaya or sutta part that said about rule of bhikkhuni ordination must be done by both bhikkhu and bhikkhuni sangha?

Re: Saving my father from rebirth in the lower realms

If I'm not wrong, the story of mogallana saving his mother in hell is mahayana teaching. So it's not found in pali canon. About saving your father, you need to have wisdom and good communication skill to teach the dhamma to him, also avoid the wrong speech. Knowing the right moment to speak the dham...

Did Buddha ever mention his past life in Pali Canon?

We know that Jataka (commentaries?) contains story of Buddha's previous life when he was Bodhisattva, but I would like to know if Buddha ever mention that he was X in past life in Pali Canon (besides the jataka)?

Isn't smoking also harm surrounding people's health where they would inhale the poisonous substance from the cigarette? With this reason, I thought monk shouldn't smoke.

Re: Is death always caused by kamma?

Thanks all for the prompt reply. I thought so too since death is a big destiny unlike someone gets wet because they forget to bring an umbrella on a rainy day for example. So if there is no coincidence death and it is always the result of kamma, what about the four things that are imponderables? Bu...

Re: How is Dependent Origin can be applied for Formless bein

The way I understand, It is incorrect to say formless does not have form. consciousness can not arise without Rupa. Formless state is a projection from the Forth Jhana. Pali word of Formless is Arupa (A + Rupa = without Rupa). The definition of Rupa (Form) itself is "The four great elements, a...

Re: How is Dependent Origin can be applied for Formless bein

No form, no six sense media, how contact occur? Furthermore, the fabrication of pleasant and unpleasant feeling is related to the bio chemistry of form. Well, I believe they still have intellect media, one of the six sense media. From the Buddhist Dictionary by Ven. Nyanatiloka (BPS): catu-vokāra-b...

How is Dependent Origin can be applied for Formless being?

Hi all, We know that the sequences of Dependent Origin (DO) are: 1. Ignorance -> Fabrications 2. Fabrications -> Consciousness 3. Consciousness -> Name-Form 4. Name-Form -> Six Sense Media 5. Six Sense Media -> Contact 6. Contact -> Feeling 7. Feeling -> Craving 8. Craving -> Clinging 9. Clinging ->...

Re: Why Buddha did not say that the world is round?

Whether the Buddha did in fact know everything or not, I don't know for sure. But I would agree with the second answer; the Buddha did know the truth of the universe. It is stated that he could see or even go to other realms. Than it would be sure that he travelled through the universe to another p...

Re: Why Buddha did not say that the world is round?

Since there's no evidence to prove it one way or another, from pure logical reasoning, if the Buddha already mastered all the supernatural powers like seeing people's many previous lives, generating many different bodies, flying through the air, going through the ground, etc.. the knowledge of a ro...

Re: Why Buddha did not say that the world is round?

He didn't mention in sutta about earth is round or not so we never know he know or not. The reason was already clear as stated above. Hi faraway, I was interested if Goofaholix thought that the Buddha knew that the earth was round. As that could be the implication of his post e.g. The Buddha knew b...

Re: Why Buddha did not say that the world is round?

Why Buddha did not say that the world is round? Because it has nothing to do with ending suffering. Hi Goofaholix So your opinion is that he knew that it was round but he didn't mention it "Because it has nothing to do with ending suffering"? He didn't mention in sutta about earth is roun...
