Re: Buddha's Anapasati Instructions

Anyone come across this book?

A Handbook for a Perfect Form of Anapanasati Bhavana Meditation by Buddhadasa?

Wondering how it might compare to the A manual for serious beginner's or the Anapanasati tome translated by Venerable Nagasena

Re: Do you believe in Arahants?

Here is an autobiography of sorts of an arahant layman: Khun Kampol Thongbunnum. Khun Kampol practices the mahasati method of Luangpo Teean, and like LP Teean is careful to couch his claim of arahantship in the phrasing “Nowadays I am fully resigned from suffering.” The link appears to be dead.

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

Greetings gsteinb, On a forum where Ingram and Folk are routinely criticized for not living up to the suttas it would seem mightily hypocritical to criticize others using blatant wrong speech. If there is a post that you believe requires moderator attention, please hit the 'report' button and fill ...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

I bet that guy will lie, cheat, and steal to make people believe he's an arahant. uh, wrong speech much? Well, the context was that from what I've read it sure seems to me that he may be a narcissist because he doesn't seem to think the rules apply to him. I think he has delusions of grandeur and w...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

Actual Freedom because the freedom discussed in the suttas (arahantship) wasn't really the freedom of the eradication of the grasping and clinging because that's not really possible except with this new thing discovered by some guy a couple of years ago?

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

Yes, but that's where the argument digresses into "you take the suttas too literally" <> "you can't have those attainments because you don't match up to what the suttas say."

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

They're clearly not going to get answered as nibs deleted his posts and left. Judging by the jargon you use it seems that you might be familiar enough with the situation to provide some answers or maybe provide the means for us to find them. If not, then alright. I don't think it's a misrepresentat...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

They're clearly not going to get answered as nibs deleted his posts and left. I don't think it's a misrepresentation...one just needs to go back and forth between the forums and read what's posted. that forum is misrepresenting the dhamma, this is one is filled with mushroom people. In either case, ...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

The question of attainments is virtually unanswerable, as the arguments are circular KFD forum: we're enlightened, they're not Dhamma Wheel forum: We're not enlightened and neither are you KFD Forum: See, they admit they're not enlightened...that's why they don't recognize we are. sigh The jhana rec...

Here's a recording from Kenneth Folk Dharma of three guys working through the jhanas. http://www.divshare.com/download/12525091-c26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm assuming since it's on a public share site I'm not breaking any rules by posting it. It's pretty long. They...

So the unrealistic eradication of harmful emotions isn't part of arahantship, but is possible with this other thing?

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

Rather than address those questions, nibs edited out his replies and announced his intention to withdraw from discussion. He went back and edited out all of his msgs. A rather sad, childish act. Obviously he felt that his sacred ox had been gored, but he obviously had no problem with lecturing us a...
