Re: Back to back Goenka retreats

I am wondering, could you sit, serve, and sit sequentially? This would be a total of 30 days or thereabouts. With a total of 20 days sitting. Seems like something worth looking into if the goal is to spend as much time in retreat as possible.

Re: Welding trade

My father was a welder for the Coal Mines through much of my childhood. He provided well for us. However, they rotated shifts so he would be working at night sometimes and we wouldn't see him for up to two weeks at a time. I imagine owning your own business would eliminate that problem. with Metta, ...

Re: Womanizing?

Hold on Bhante, are you saying Buddhist men can freely have sex with prostitutes and still their observance of the third precept remains intact? Yes. And Buddhist women with gigolos, if they're so inclined. I think it is important here to note that Ven. Dhammanando is not saying a Buddhist man/woma...

Re: is masturbation a lower hindrance than sex?

It may be worth considering that the Pratimoksha vows and punishment might be more severe because of the hindrance of result . That us to say, the result of sex is the hindrance of children... So the incentive against having sex is greater than for masturbation. On the other side, the cause is proba...

Re: Looking for "Right Effort" Reminder graphic/wallpaper

Have you seen Jet Li's Fearless? There is a scene where his character is helping work in the rice firlds. He learns an important lesson about right effort. It might not be the best image but I would use a still from that scene, if I could find one. Here is a link to his character being awfully conte...

Re: Buddhist response to Terrorism

I remember a quote by Ajahn Bram where he said that he was very proud of response he heard from the Buddhist community after some large carvings were destroyed in Afghanistan. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhas_of_Bamiyan I remember him saying that the response he heard was essentially, "Ev...

Re: Joining retreats of different traditions

I don't think this is going to confuse you too much. If the second retreat gives interviews with the teacher, you might want to tell them what you learned in the previous retreat so that you are both "on the same page" so to speak. Any difference is going to much more subtle and easy to de...

Those are Haiku strictly speaking. I don't have time to go into it, but your rules are incorrect.
