Re: Help the Bhikkhunis Purchase a Monastery
For people outside the US, the payment options are very limited on the Indiegogo campaign. The Dhammadharini Vihara also offers Paypal as a donation method on their website, see here if you look for a method other than VISA card or american express.

Looking for specific Sutta
Hey all, I'm looking for a specific sutta but can't seem to find it anymore. In it, the Buddha said something along the lines that if people wouldn't have already believed in celestial beings etc, he would have not taught about them. But because people already believed in them, he taught about it. P...

Re: If the Thai Forest Tradition is the one you "follow", then why?
I am inspired by their adherence to the monastic code, their focus on meditation, and their forest-dwelling practices. Those are the reasons why I'm more into the Thai Forest Tradition than into other schools or branches or general: they live as closely to the Buddha's teachings as they can. Person...

Re: meditation late at night
I think that's the best way to go:

I wouldn't recommend Option C with this in mind.

The Khamma of Trolling
Heya everybody There's quite an interesting story on Kotaku where 10 former internet trolls talk about their lifes , why they trolled and harassed people and why they quit. If you're interested in the Khamma of Trolling, this might be really interesting and helpful. It's a good lesson in wholesome a...

Re: Why one meal a day?
If you read up on anthropology, you will find out that our ancestors, for many millions of years, lived probably eating only one meal a day—sometimes nothing at all for many days, when food was scarce. We have biologically evolved to live in such a way. Studies have been conducted about intermitten...

Re: Have Theravadin traditions engaged with scientists?
Hi Alobha, I don't have an issue with the points you raised with me. In fact, I don't think we disagree substantially. I'm not a fan of clinicians using Satipatthana or Satipatthana derived secular practices for relaxation or this or that treatment. The appropriation of meditation by science and ps...

Re: Have Theravadin traditions engaged with scientists?
It's the scientists who need to examine their own brains by meditating seriously using the Satipaṭṭhāna method for a few weeks or months. Then they will understand what the benefits are. I agree, but unfortunately this will not be enough to convince clinics and governments to train therapists in te...

Re: Purpose of meditation
Hi there, new member here. :anjali: I am interested in Buddhism - concepts like dukkha, impermanence etc. - make sense to me. But I am no fan of meditation in the strict, disciplined sense. So my question is, did Buddha mean something else by meditation (like simply reminding oneself that all this ...

Re: Moderation in eating: Social eating
If you have trust enough in this people you can just tell them that you are trying to eat only until 12 and that you would appreciate their help. Good point. I'm not very confident that people will understand or accept what i'm doing but I may try that nontheless. Don't be so attached to a routine....
