Re: What should meditation feel like?

Okay Ben, I am obviously over-thinking as usual. I will keep trying. Thank you :)

Re: What should meditation feel like?

From Bhante G. People experience all manner of varied phenomena in meditation. Some people get itches. Others feel tingling, deep relaxation, a feeling of lightness or a floating sensation. You may feel yourself growing or shrinking or rising up in the air. Beginners often get quite excited over su...

Re: What should meditation feel like?

No not really. I have read lots, watched videos, listened to MP3's. All I'm trying to do at the minute is keep my focus on the breath and not the discomfort. Once I can achieve this I was planning on learning more. I tend to overwhelm myself with information sometimes and then worry where to start, ...

Re: Mentioning Buddhism in public

I read somewhere that Buddhism is the way we can save our planet from the damage we have done and are still doing. As a biology undergraduate I fully agree with this. Of course I would never preach to anyone, but I will definitely encourage and help friends that are looking for it. If only I could ...

Re: Mentioning Buddhism in public

saving our planet: I have a friend who speaks a lot about sustainability and even works for a not-for-profit devoted to this idea. I was tempted to say, "Sustainability? You mean Buddhadhamma right?" :) Still, I am wondering if this person you encountered on the other board may have heard...

What should meditation feel like?

Hello everyone I've very new to Buddhism, I apologise for perhaps using the wrong wording in my post. I was just looking for some input regarding my meditation. I have been practising for a week now and can never get past the feeling of discomfort above all else. However, this evening it was differe...

Re: Mentioning Buddhism in public

Thank you for your replies once again :) I've only spoken to a few people about my beliefs, and those were chosen carefully as I knew they would understand my reasons and accept them. This lady who slated me was from the US. I've never experienced or heard in my presence these views before. But she ...

Re: Mentioning Buddhism in public

Sorry I didn't explain correctly. She didn't say I shouldn't mention Buddhism at all in public, what she said was that I should not show pride in Buddhism or use it as an explanation for the way one would act. I don't know if this makes any difference.

Re: Mentioning Buddhism in public

Thank you. That is a relief. I thought I'd done something really bad. The person was not opposed to Buddhism, they were in fact preaching to me the right and wrong ways to follow - telling me that judgement and control of behaviour is a Christian view and things. I'd not based what I said in the deb...

Mentioning Buddhism in public

Hi all I've just posted my opinion regarding a completely unrelated matter on a public forum. Someone commented positively on my non-judgemental and empathetic response to a debate. I then mentioned I have recently taken refuge in Buddhism and am trying not to be judgemental or get angry etc. I was ...

Re: Learning Buddhism

Thank you kindly Scott, that is indeed very helpful. I have been very mindful of my day to day activities and have found myself approaching previously stressful situations with a new attitude after the small amount of reading I have done. I won't post anymore questions for now until I have had chanc...

Re: Learning Buddhism

Thank you so much for your helpful responses. I think I am more inclined towards the Theravada school. I admit I have not had much time to spend reading and learning, but I do have a few more questions that I don't seem to be able to find the answers to, or I don't understand from the information I ...

Learning Buddhism

Hello everyone. I am from the UK and have been reading a little about Buddhism. I am rather overwhelmed by the amount of information available on the internet, all of it seems conflicting and complicated. I am just wondering if someone can give me some advice on a reliable place to start. There are ...
