Re: Bed Bugs

this seems to just be one of those things that is unavoidable to the house holder. I agree with what Cittisanto is saying. Bed Bugs is more then a mere uncomfortable nuisance and without a doubt needs to be dealt with in one way or another as it effects not just your family but the whole community.

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

Hey Don! Sorry to hear that. But don't take it so serious! 52 days, that's a lot. I'm really grateful that you started this thread, because for me it was a good time and a good undertaking. Maybe I should not have made such a silly competition out of it. I just thought it might spur the motivation ...

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

Remember what I said about vows being made to be broken? ;) friend do not feel bad and down youself. I say all you need to do is your meditation practice and when you are ready it will be given up naturally and without struggle ;).

Re: Richard Dawkins v Cardinal Pell (panel debate)

But tell me, Ferox, how do you feel about "intelligent design" being taught in schools in the US? That part of the science curriculum in the US must include creationist ideas? I am not Ferox, but. This is terrible! Wrong views need to be criticized more often. How would you feel if the ne...

I'm sorry that there others aren't so interested in the public discourse as I am. C'est la vie. But tell me, Ferox, how do you feel about "intelligent design" being taught in schools in the US? That part of the science curriculum in the US must include creationist ideas? How would you fee...

Re: Richard Dawkins v Cardinal Pell (panel debate)

people always seem to be fond of debating things that really don't have an answer to them... or questions that come down to personal belief/choice/freedom that are not even worth debating. Just feels like wasting time to me, but I guess that is also me being judgmental as well.

Re: mayan prediction

no way to know either way is there? although I'd say that keeping our minds in the present and practicing will help us either way, whether we die after 12/21 or continue to live hehe. that being said.. I am a bit of a fan of these types of end of the world scenarios.. I think it goes back to reading...

Re: my attempt ... am I doing it the "right way" ?

Venerable Dhamika(sp?) was once asked a question like this, "am I doing it right".. and he said.. I dunno what do you think? lol..he basically said that it is like a sick person who gradually gets rid of the sickness.. you know when you are doing it right, no one else can tell you. I agree...

Re: happy easter!

I wonder what the percentage of western Buddhists are that love Monty python LOL.. great video.

Happy Easter to all, even though I have been a Buddhist for many years now, I still get together with the family for all the major holidays, as has been tradition since I was a kid.

Re: Daily life

I've come to notice through mindfulness that as soon as I need to go to the bathroom for an extended period I will reach right for my iphone without conscious thought.. now that I notice it I do it a lot less and I do what the buddha taught, being mindful at all times, even in the toilet. In this wo...

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

I think the issue here is having to make a "vow" to do it.... making vows leads to failure and then feeling bad for yourself when you cannot meet the vows as the change has not come across naturally through practice. I posted in another thread about how I came to the point a few months bac...

interesting experience, but an experience to be observed and moved on from (ie not become attached to) non the less.. not that that really answers your question. I'd be interested to see some of the responses either way.

Re: Less Chatty Metta Bhavana?

Mayhap you can practice the two types of metta taught by the buddha? exalted and immeasurable metta. Immeasurable metta is sending metta out to all beings in the 6 directions(you do each direction one at a time), exalted is metta radiating from you and spreading out into the universe( state, country...

Re: Religious Affiliations for U.S. Adults.

nothing unexpected, especially the buddhist numbers. I think most of us are probably the only Buddhists we know in our daily lives, even those lucky enough to have a monastery or temple in their tradition fairly close.
