Re: Free-will is it an illusion?
"For the early Buddhists, karma was non-linear and complex. Other Indian schools believed that karma operated in a simple straight line, with actions from the past influencing the present, and present actions influencing the future. As a result, they saw little room for free will. Buddhists, ho...

Re: Materialism, Dualism, Buddhism
It is quite simple to disapprove materialism. Be mindful of your thoughts and tell me is the experience of thoughts material? Be mindful of your perceptions, is the experience material? The same applies to everything a human being experiences, to all five khandas/skandhas: Consciousness, Mental Form...

Re: Daniel M. Ingram - Dhamma book written by arahat?
I went to his forum and asked him is there heaven and hell. He got upset. I requested him to delete me from his forum and he deleted me. How can an Arahant get upset and I do not remember that the Buddha refused to teach anyone even if they insisted that they do not wish to be thought. If someone re...

Cuase and effect are a transformation from one thing to another, but it actually remains the same thing.

Re: according to the pali canon, what happens after you die?
This is to be done by one skilled in aims who wants to break through to the state of peace: Be capable, upright, & straightforward, easy to instruct, gentle, & not conceited, content & easy to support, with few duties, living lightly, with peaceful faculties, masterful, modest, & no ...

Re: Samatha v. vipassana?
I would say Samatha Meditation leads to Tranquility and Calm and prepares the mind for Vipassana Meditation. Vipassana Meditation leads to Insight into the Nature of Reality.

In which sutta is the Buddha being asked this?
In one of the suttas I read(but I forgot to bookmark it), the Buddha is asked of whether or not will all beings attain enlightenment, the Buddha remains silent upon being asked that question. In what sutta is this?

Re: I am aware that this is a Theravadin forum, I have questions
This is not entirely correct. The Buddha called the religion he founded Dhamma-Vinaya, "The Doctrine and Discipline".Dukkhanirodha wrote:from a discourse given by Goenkaji in Mumbai, sept 2006:
He was not a founder of any religion, he never founded any religion.

What language did the Buddha speak?
Some sources say Sanskrit and some Magadhi. Now I wonder is there any evidence? I apologize if the question has been asked previously on this forum.

Re: I am aware that this is a Theravadin forum, I have questions
I have decided even before I read your answers to my questions that I will not switch to Mahayana, but it would be great to go to that Dharma Center I talked about. There are no Theravadin Centers except the Goenka's 10-day retreat, but I am in search of a teacher that would teach me all about Dhamm...
