Re: Talking is Wrong Livelihood?

Thanissaro Bhikkhu's translation uses "persuading" rather than talking. https://www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/MN/MN117.html "Scheming, persuading, hinting, belittling, & pursuing gain with gain.7" With #7 footnote as "This definition appears to refer to wrong livelihood for...

Re: Animals lower than people for reincarnation?

To me it seems that animals are the purest beings in the world why would they be less than humans? Generally it's just because they have more suffering and less opportunity to be free of that suffering. How do Buddhist treat animals because they are lower than humans in reincarnation realms. They t...

They would not kill far fewer as they would simply be reborn over and over again. The person would kill FAR fewer beings by practicing properly, getting enlightenment and stopping rebirth.

I experienced this phenomenon a few years back and I reported it in Dhamma Wheel in one of my posts.
I have never seen this described in any of the Dhamma books.
It's practiced in Tibetan Buddhism, AKA Tibetan Dream Yoga.

Re: Human realm and Human evolution from animals theory

According to Buddhism, theory of evolution cannot be true as animals and humans live in two different realms. Animals have to die and reborn in human realm, they can't just transform or evolved to be a human. It can be true because animals did not evolve into humans in a single lifetime. The theory...

Re: What is the Buddhist view of abortion?

The tricky thing is, from a traditional Buddhist POV, there is no such moment when the embryo/foetus is utterly insentient. That is as I have learned also. A "sentient being" has been sentient for uncountable previous aeons, uncountable previous deaths and births and there has never been ...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

Getting back to Right Intention, if it included not causing any indirect harm how is that different to acting like a Jain? Where is there a "direct" harm in not avoiding meat that is suspected of being killed specifically for oneself? After all, the animal is already dead anyway and now i...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

There is no harm in killing animals to get meat if done appropriately. There may be harm through intensive livestock farming however. Pray tell, how does one accomplish such a feat? Tell, how do you define "harm"? What is harmed if an animal gets instantly killed? The person who is killin...

Re: Should you tell people your level of attainment?

No, claiming attainment is typically just egotism. Unless you have zero attainment level, nothing wrong with telling people that! One exception would be privately to a teacher, so they can show you how you are wrong.

Re: Killing And Compassion.

Some consider not having cats to begin with as pets is the ideal. But when there are already millions of them just sitting in tiny cages in shelters it’s not very realistic!

Re: Killing And Compassion.

Lot of people consider it cruel to just allow the below to happen when it could be prevented, even if only partially. Given the below, one could easily say that letting them do that is what’s cruel. Outdoor cats are the leading cause of death among both birds and mammals in the United States, accord...
