Re: Retrofuturist has stepped down as administrator
I don't post often but I do read here often. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to learn from everyone here and Retro has been been one of my favorites. Thank you for your thoughts and your style of expressing them!

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
I'm not a Utopianist either. In the article that started the blog, "The Buddha And Occupy Wall Street" , the author stated, "What's happening now, with the incomes of the rich soaring and those of the ordinary person falling - is unsustainable." I'm not sure where Time obtained t...

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
There are so many responses with some really great links that it kept me busy for a while reading/watching it all. I would like to respond to each individually but I have little time (full-time working mom with 2 little ones) so please excuse me if my points are not as clear as they could...

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
Thank you Kim. I did actually read that first and I have just re-read it and the first few pages of the discussion and no one has put forth the question, do you think that more government involvement limits our personal freedom? Jason would like to see us move further into a socialist type of econom...

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
Thank you for that Daniel. Why is it important for you to know this? Daniel  I asked what party people align with or who they voted for to understand where you or the people participating in the movement stand, what your thoughts are. I wanted to know if the 99% is a blend of people of all po...

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
Thank you for answering. I asked because I am genuinely interested and you genuinely answered. Up until now I had not understood as completely as I do now. I agree that our collective current state of affairs is in need of great reform but as to the solutions, Jason, I will respectfully agree to dis...

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
Alan - Which opinions do you want me to back up with fact?
I agree, Jason's response is very thoughtful and well laid out but he is not referencing facts, he is referencing ideas and events that he believes in.

Re: The Buddha and Occupy Wall Street
I've been following Occupy in the news and reading along here and I have some questions if someone would like to answer them. I guess I'd call myself a fiscal conservative with some liberal leaning tendencies in other areas. I'm wondering if liberal thinkers and conservative thinkers could come toge...

Re: 350: Global Events for Climate Action, Real Change
I agree with the positive changes that could come from using alternative energy technologies but I would be more comfortable with less government involvment for the above reasons. Can anyone more knowledgable than me lay out both sides of the global warming issue? There are many scientists for it bu...

Re: 350: Global Events for Climate Action, Real Change
I'm all for caring for the earth, bringing our awareness to how we think, speak and act in all aspects of our lives. Clearly we need to focus on our need for consumption (greed) and as a community rethink our lifestyles. But to make policy that will effect each and every one of us without an equal s...

Re: The Struggle of Letting Go
Hi Zavk, I see exactly what you mean and I am working on that too. It's hard to strike that balance between what I want for someone vs letting things be and take their course, especially when I think I'm helping them or saving them from misery. They need to learn in their own way, in their own time....

Re: The Struggle of Letting Go
Thanks Chris, I really enjoyed that too. Can anyone elaborate on this part: "I couldn't bear to see the pup so ill. He was such a lively bundle of fur, prancing and tumbling about with the others. They are all such a joy to see." "You are letting your notion of an ego come into your c...

Re: What is Truth?
To me the raft is pragmatism in the sense that its true since it works and anti-realist since its to be abandoned and so not ultimate truth, yet doesnt this go against kamma which is realist since the statement "infanticide is ok" is ultimately wrong according to traditional buddhist ethi...

Re: Mindfulness and exercise/sports
When I was younger (much younger) I was a competetive gymnast. Spent 6 days a week, 4-6 hours a day at the gym. Focus, sustained concentration, energy, will, and effort all played a large role in any success you could have in that sport. First you would need to "block out" or "turn of...
