Re: Is It Possible to Be a Lay Theravada Buddhist?
It is also possible for a lay disciple to become enlightened. As Bhikkhu Bodhi notes, "The Suttas and commentaries do record a few cases of lay disciples attaining the final goal of Nibbana. However, such disciples either attain Arahantship on the brink of death or enter the monastic order soo...

Re: The body and the breath
Hello,
A lot of times when I put my attention to breathing and feeling my body I end up feeling what feels like energy or aliveness in parts of my body (Mainly i can feel it in my hands and feet) other times with breathing I can feel it in my belly. Is this feeling the body?

Ajahn Chah Zen Theravada?
Alright weird title. But I am curious after reading through many talks by Ajahn Chah. It seems as if he has a zen like approach. Sort of just do it and also the fact that he keeps saying that we can be liberated at any moment. From this perspective it seems zen like, but perhaps its because I dont k...

Layperson ethics
I opened a thread in the other section concerning laymen practice and I want to perhaps discuss in more detail the ethics and virtues that a laymen should try to implement,. I think I am overdue to start practicing some virtue. I am currently trying to observe the mind and all sensation as awareness...

Re: Lay man Theravada
This is great information on lay practice and my sort of off topic question on women> I still am confused as to why women are still not seen as equal with monks. These are some of the problems I am finding as I probe deeper. I am starting to find myself move a bit away from Mahayana approaches. I li...

Re: Lay man Theravada
Awesome feedback ben. I am reading a work of lectures of Ajahn Chah and its interesting how he speaks to some lay people. It seems that he thinks they can also attain. I love his way of teaching I was surprised to see that it was therevadan. Not in a negative sense, but it seemed a bit zen like comi...

Re: The universe is without a refuge, without a Supreme God.
You are right and no offense is taken. I admire the buddhist around me. That is why I am contemplating taking it as a path. But I am trying to be patient. I have already went to a theravada temple, Zen, and Tibetan center. Though I am taking my time. I have also went to two Hindu temples. I want to ...

Re: The universe is without a refuge, without a Supreme God.
Namaste, I didnt want this to turn into a debate. I just wanted to see if people understood the hindu concept which it still seems like they dont. I am sure there has to be some article ill find online to address it and a refutation from a buddhist perspective. Now as far as it not being compatable ...

Re: The universe is without a refuge, without a Supreme God.
Its another way to free us from suffering. According to the hindus when the Yogi realizes that he is not seperate from God then the yogi experiences liberation. There is no such thing as death and rebirth. It is identical to nirvana. So perhaps its the same thing. This is what I am pondering.

It explains the unborn, indestructable, beyond time and space, our true nature that we are not separate from.

Re: The universe is without a refuge, without a Supreme God.
It appears that Namu Butsu is poking his head in here, interested in Buddhist ideas. It is not easy to let go of the God idea. It took me a while. For example when I was just a kid my parents died. I immediately replaced them with God, my parent-in-space. Just like letting go of them (the parents),...
