Re: What Buddha didn't taught that could help our present li
The Buddha Taught us all we need. Everything else is what we'd like, but none of it can improve on the Buddha's teachings. They might confirm, endorse or support it. But they're not necessary. They're just popular. I wasn't talking about improving Buddha's teachings. For example, Buddha didn't taug...

Re: What Buddha didn't taught that could help our present li
1. Exercise 2. Nutrition The Buddha said: ‘ Good health is the highest gain ’ (Dhp.204) and he encouraged monks and nuns to do exercise as a way of promoting vigour and health (Vin.II,119). However, he did not emphasize nor discuss any further the value of exercise. He also did not talk much about ...

Re: Non Violence, self defence and defence of others
Buddha was trained as a warrior prince. Did he ever asked us to take a self defence course? Self defence never helped the Sakyans! Why did the enemy kill the whole Sakyan Klan except Buddha? The little difference here is: we are not Buddha nor Sakyans ;) Martial Arts is not only a physical ...

What Buddha didn't taught that could help our present life?
I was wondering for quite some time, if Buddhism is incompatible with some practices or philosphy behind Tai-Chi. In specific, I know that Buddha didn't taught about Chi, or energy, and such stuffs, but does that prevents someone of feeling it or believing on it? I know that chi or stuffs like that ...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?
I think a lot of people here a loosing the spirit of the precepts and clinging to the letter. I haven't see anyone drunk or loosing his mind to eat a little of pasta or a beef with some alcohol as a flavoring. Even when the Buddha said in the Vinaya that such thing is not a problem, there are some m...

Re: Cooking with alcohol?
It's not clear how one can deliberately put alcohol into food just to give it a particular taste, and yet act in line with the above instruction on how to regard food. Condiments and salt are not necessary and still you use it  I don't see salt too much different from wine, both are used to ...

Bad meditating
Hello! I always have problems keeping with my meditation. Sometimes I meditate every day in a week, then I drop it for months, and restart again, two days a week, etc. I'm proposing me to start slowly, perhaps two days per week. I would like to know, how often is good to meditate at minimum. It's to...

Re: Physical Exercise & Buddhist Practice
Hello, Is physical exercise (weight lifting & cardiovascular) permissible in Buddhist practice for increasing bodily health? Thanks, Corey Healthy body, healthy mind. By all means, exercise. Personally I can't go more than a few days without it. There is not problem with exercise nor with telev...

Re: The Buddhist catechism by H.Olcott
He was a Theosophist. Even when he accepted Buddhism, he wasn't a Buddhist. He believed in a lot weird stuff. Anyone who take the refuge of Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha and accept five precepts is a Buddhist. There are many types of Buddhist in different stages of development. :) Please see "Are you...

Offerings to honour the dead and devas
Hello,
What did Buddha said about giving offerings to honour the dead, to the devas, etc?
I know that devas cannot save us from anything, but it seems that through offerings to devas they could protect us.
Are there references in the suttas for this?

Which sport do you practice?
Hello, I practice Martial Arts (Tang Soo Do) basically for fitness, concentration (it's a meditation for me) and who knows, eventually I could defend myself. I like it, for me is not violent, I enjoy it, and everybody in the Dojang enjoy it too. Unwholesome? According to who? Which sport do y...
