Re: User database compromised?

As you mention, the site is not using SSL so it might be your connection to dhammawheel.com that was compromised e.g. while using a public wifi. Very unlikely. I'm an IT professional working on a Linux computer in a secured network. I have not been using this account at all for the last 4 years, an...

Re: User database compromised?

Hi David, Thanks for looking into this. I am quite sure that my email address wasn't randomly generated, but harvested from this board's database, because it contains the exact email address which I used here and I received no other emails from the phishers. You would not be able to detect illicit a...

Re: User database compromised?

No takers?

I don't mean to nag, but your users will probably NOT like having their dhammawheel email addresses traded by online marketeers, hackers, or phishers. Admins, you might want to look into this ASAP. I can say for sure that I did not use this email address anywhere else.

Regards, Pannapetar

User database compromised?

I was active on this forum some years ago. Today I received a phishing email entitled "Your itunes account has been frozen" which prompted me to confirm my iTunes account details. This email was sent to my email address "dhammawheel@....com" which I have exclusively used on this ...

Re: non-violence in extreme cases.

I own a black powder cap and ball .45 cal revolver. ...a 45-70 single shot open sight rifle... a .22 semi-automatic target pistol... a .22 rifle... a recurve bow with a 27 pound pull... Tiltbillings, would you mind explaining how that ties in with the principle of ahimsa? I just seem to have some d...

Re: Some advice needed please

Trying to decide things on "a case by case" is precisely what confuses things. Deciding on a case by case basis does not "confuse" things, but it makes them more complicated. Sorry, can't help that. Things are complicated, that is their nature. The development of societal law sh...

Re: Some advice needed please

Intent is the plan of action. Motivation is WHY you plan the action. OK. You could indeed make that distinction. Unfortunately, this leads to a very deep question in ethics which revolves around whether the end justifies the means, or to put it into academic terms: consequentialism versus deontolog...

Re: What is holding you back from ordaining?

Well what is better for progress: being married with lots of responcibilites + full time job vs being a monk with some duties ( that you do only outwardly, you don't need to believe in rites & rituals ) and much less stress and responcibilities. Good question. Since I live in Thailand I had the...

Re: Some advice needed please

I think you are confusing motivation with intent. Kamma is about intent, not motivation. Can you explain the difference between motivation and intent? Although I have personally never found it necessary to kill a pet in order to prevent unnecessary suffering, I can imagine extreme scenarios where t...

Re: non-violence in extreme cases.

This is getting more into politics. [...] Someone may have many guns but never kill anyone with them because they are only a collector. Only Americans believe that this has to do with politics. It doesn't. It has to do with math. It can be shown statistically that the number of guns owned by a popu...

Re: the great rebirth debate

I think Peter is making good progress. Having vowed not to get involved with rebirth discussions, he has already reduced replies to single words. Peter, you're almost there. The causal citta theory of rebirth sounds slightly contrived to me, although I am not sure if I understand it complete...

Re: non-violence in extreme cases.

I would say that just because someone has a weapon for any reason does not mean someone will kill someone else with it. While this may be true individually, unfortunately, this statement does not hold true for a large statistical population. The USA is a case in point, where gun violence is quite h...

Re: Some advice needed please

Sorry Adosa, but your argument about washing your sheets or driving is not correct. The intent in washing sheets is to have clean sheets, not to take life. But what about the other argument of Adosa? He doesn't want to kill his cat; he wants to prevent senseless physical suffering. May the kamma theor...

Re: thailand political situation

A little miracle occurred yesterday. My sister in law was allowed for the first time to enter Central World again, after the shopping mall had been destroyed by the red shirts last week. The management had made an appointment with her and the other shop owners. The section of the building where my s...

Re: Enrobing in Thailand Today

I think it would be foolish considering the current political situation, perhaps the worst has passed I'd give it a few months before booking a ticket... Such concerns have little actual foundation. Even at the height of the political protests, the risk of contracting dengue fever, being run over b...
