Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
From a place of genuine inquiry, how do you reconcile the Buddha's teachings on non-self with nationalistic feelings? I know but I'm curious.

Re: Video on NY Times on persecution of Burmese Muslims
what bad may come out of this situation or the way it's being covered by the Western media is that buddhists in other parts of the world will become targets for islamic terrorists You have some twisted priorities. What bad may come is that people are dying due to a racism that I'm sure Lord Buddha ...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
Imagine team work. How are men and women on the same footing working towards a common goal not teamwork? Are there no fully ordained Bhikkhuini's? There are, but they are not recognized as such. This is the issue. [quote- "paribbajaka"] His address was not given because this is part of a ...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
Equality isn't always equal, and there are those who feel entitled here. justice can only be justice if there can be comparable equality. Just because we feel something should be so doesn't mean it is justified to be that way by any means, or that there are no other means to get to the desired end ...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
In the history of the sasana, since the Buddha died, there has not been a single case of even the smallest rule in the Vinaya being changed or deleted by the sangha. How could they now decide to change something as important as an ordination rule that is ranked as GARUDHAMMa and listed in both sutt...

The Bhikkhunis being ordained are not recognized by several branches of the Theravada tree. If this were not the case, there wouldn't be a discussion.Mr Man wrote:Isn't this happening already.clw_uk wrote:Why not just ordain women again

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
The only people worth feeling sorry for, are those who feel entitled to something! That's funny, because I feel sorry for people who don't see that everyone is entitled to equal treatment. The Buddha ordained Bhikkhunis. The instructions he left for ordaining more can no longer be used, and I perso...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
They already have that. Nuns do not need to be bhikkhunis to give teachings and spiritual advice. With all due respect bhante, but in the same way man do not need to become bhikkhus. If that is the case and everything is good enough if we are somewhat-spiritualized why not get rid of the monastic s...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
The fact that the rules are not followed by most is not a valid reason for changing them. The rules have not been bent — most are not able to follow them fully, but the rules haven't been changed since the time of the Buddha. So why don't we recognize that the requirements for Bhikkhuni ordination ...

Re: Petition about ajahn brahm's paper that was banned
I'm really shocked that this is an issue that needs to be discussed. The Vinaya prohibits monks from traveling via wheeled vehicles or handling money and I see both constantly when I visit temples. This doesn't even consider situations such as monks using iphones and ipads, where there is no trainin...

Re: Buddhists are losers?
I actually think that this can be applied to followers of any religions. Christians that take Jesus' teachings on worldly wealth seriously, Hindus that take the ascetic path, etc. There are Buddhists that pursue worldly success and the spiritual life at the same time (canonically obviously Anathapin...

England is more than just London. Perhaps the original poster lives somewhere else in the country.

I'm not sure of the source, but I'd always heard that the topknot hairstyle was also a visual way to distinguish between Buddha and other monks in art and statues.
