Re: Violence in dreams
Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't play violent video games, or watch violent movies or anything like that. I don't even listen to violent music! I don't believe eating meat can cause bad dreams sorry, so I don't think that could be the cause. In the dreams I am usually being attacked/murdered...

Violence in dreams
Hi all, I wasn't sure where to put this, hopefully here is alright. I've got a bit of an issue with being violent in my dreams. I am not a violent person in daily life, and never have been, yet I quite often find myself causing grievous injury to people in my dreams. I usually wake up soon after, an...

Sutta on 'may I live long enough'
Dear all, Sorry for the vague title. I'm on the hunt for a different sutta this time! From what I recall, the Buddha was speaking to someone about the urgency with which one should undertake the holy life. The other person would suggest things such as 'I will start practicing tomorrow morning', 'aft...

Re: Sutta about the merit of meditation
My sincere apologies Mike! This is indeed the one I had in mind, I just didn't recognise it upon first read through. Thanks heaps! I found a slightly easier to read translation here for anyone interested: http://www.vimokkha.com/velama.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Tha...

Re: Sutta about the merit of meditation
Thanks daverupa, but unfortunately AN 8.36 is not the one I am searching for. Thanks also Mike, AN 9.20 is much closer to the one I have in mind, although I clearly remember it mentioning offerings such as temples being built, and also things such as an offering of almsfood to a monk as opposed to a...

Sutta about the merit of meditation
Hi all, Quite a while ago I read a sutta which gradually compared the merit gained from all kinds of offerings, such as almsfood, building temples and whatnot, to the merit gained from a single day spent in meditation. Could anyone please point me in the right direction, as I'm having a terrible tim...
