Hi everyone
Wow, thanks for sharing your advice and experiences on this topic. I really appreciate it. It has definitely cleared up much confusion concerning my own meditation practice.

Insight arising naturally in meditation?
Hi everyone Whilst meditating this morning I noticed something. I recite the mantra 'Buddho' to calm the mind, the recitation slows down to follow my breath and eventually the mind seems to naturally drop 'Buddho' when it has developed a degree of samadhi. I feel like I'm simply watching the process...

Re: Dhamma and psychotherapy
Thanks everyone for your input... I approached my lecturer yesterday to voice my concerns about what had happened, and to raise a few questions about the forms of meditation being taught. He suggested that I bring up the questions in the next class. Perhaps by giving him some time to prepare to answ...

Dhamma and psychotherapy
Hi everyone What do you think of this trend in society of psychotherapists pulling out aspects of Dhamma practice and integrating it into their therapeutic practice? Does it have it's uses, or is it a case of folks pretending to be experts on things they may not understand fully and risking harming ...

Re: Untangling myself from incorrect view
Thanks for all your advice on this one. Yes, I'm fortunate to have one of Ajahn Chah's branch monasteries close by so I've begun attending teachings there and noticing a general improvement in my practice ever since. My experience has led me to question everything I am taught, inadvertently placing ...

Re: Untangling myself from incorrect view
Yes, this was but one of many dubious practices I witnessed being performed by this monk. The moment I started hearing claims of his "miraculous ability to control the weather" I got as far away from his organisation as possible. I pray that he sees the error in his ways and that none of h...

Thanks for your response.
I should clarify that his comments strictly relate to the consumption of alcohol, and not the other things I mentioned.

Untangling myself from incorrect view
Hi everyone I am in the process of untangling myself from the effects of some damaging teachings I received by a questionable monk whom I took refuge under several years ago. My question concerns the development of sila, samadhi and panne. Am I right in saying that concentration and wisdom cannot de...

Re: Buddhist cults?
Thanks again for so many responses. I've gone to the Palyul Nyingma international website and there's absolutely no reference to this institute on their authorised centres page. I've sent them an email requesting clarification on whether this centre has been directly authorised by HH Penor Rinpoche,...

Buddhist cults?
Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, but don't know where else I can turn to regarding this issue I want to raise. Does anybody here have experience of the Pathgate Institute of Buddhist Studies in Newcastle, UK? I ask because I took refuge with the teacher there, Lama Dondrup Dorje, several years ago...
