Re: Aniccaṃ = Impermanent

In regard to Waharaka crowd I have a love and hate mix feelings. I try to get what I can get. They strongly believe that Buddha was born in Sri Lanka. Paul (Retro) is the first to introduce Waraka to Dhamma Wheel. I spent many hours studding him and finally gave up on him. Sometimes I wonder whether...

Re: Aniccaṃ = Impermanent

This is a difficult question. I have spent almost ten years without knowing the exact meaning. The best is to look at all Anicca, Dukkha and Anattha in one bundle. There is a Sutta Buddha ask if we can’t control whether it is appropriate to take them as self. (Attha) I will look at the crux of Buddh...

Re: What is the meaning of “Samadiyami”?

Sri Lankan monks are talking something like “Samadan” It sounds like come to terms with or meta and Karina sort of thing. For instance two angry people can forgive each other called “ Samadan” Sri Lankan monks think Veramani and Samadiyami are two different actions. Veramani is avoidance. Samadhi is...

Then, we should let it go, because it immediately starts to deteriorate. That's what it reminded me of. :anjali:

Re: Far side of compassion

It appears this is in the commentary Empathy, compassion, has it dangers. In the commentaries on the Brahma Viharas, it is said that each of the four has two “enemies”—a near enemy and a far enemy. The far enemy is the opposite mental state which challenges our practice. The near enemy resembles th...

Re: The Right to Refuse Donation

But what do you think of not accepting Dana from a soldier? If you mean the Myanmar episode where a section of the sangha carried out an "inverting of the bowl" action against the entire military, then I don't think it was a lawful procedure. To be lawful the target has to be an individua...

Re: The Right to Refuse Donation

I think Budhha specifically mentioned the incidents where a monk could turn the bowl upside down, it appears that there are only eight reasons to do so. In all other circumstances, monks have to accept it. That's not so. The part in bold should say: "In all other circumstances, when a monk is ...

Re: The Right to Refuse Donation

:anjali: Dear All, Thanks for the answers. However the question is not about time to eat or kind of flesh. It is about how a monk react to donation of dirty money. For example: 1. Donation from a corruptor who get the money from corruption. Does a monk should refuse or accept food or robe bought wi...

To me, the whole Abhidhamma is a summary of the Satipathana Sutta. MN10 I see the whole Tipitaka in Abhidhamma but tabulated differently. Re: Is there the idea of a third eye in any lineage of Buddhism or Theravada Buddhism?

There is no specific mention of a third eye in Buddhism.
However, Buddhism discuss Indriya similar to eye, ear etc. (Saddha Indriya, Sati Indriya etc.)
Also, Buddhism discusses supernormal powers such as hearing and being seen specially.
These are various faculties in our mind
