Re: Question about Thailand

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPYFJfaA4aQ Found this with subtitles it's more representative of His delivery style as I remember. I have to listen to this noise on a regular basis because, as I've said elsewhere here, my Thai wife is heavily involved with this lot! I've come to hate the sound of ...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

I must say that I am getting more and more worried about my wife's involvement with this group. Today she went off to the Temple in Woking and just as we said goodbye she said today is a "big merit day" at the temple and as she said this she looked in the direction of my wallet on the tabl...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

If you like to help someone who's in a cult, consider getting his book: Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults and Beliefs (Published 2012) http://freedomofmind.com/Media/bookFreedom.php Problem for me is that it is most likely only available in the English language. I ...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Its been a while since I've posted on here and as Kumara recently wrote a few posts I thought I'd post this as a kind of answer to my own question about whether or not DMC will endure. So after reading through this I have come to the definite conclusion that DMC is here to stay. Meanwhile, my issues...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

LonesomeYogurt , Oh dear, it appears you have either completely missed the point or chose to ignore it. It seems clear to me that you believe what you do because you are a Buddhist. Who are you to say that "their versions are not logically consistent with the examination of the mind." That...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

Rebirth is, to me, the most parsimonious, logical, and "safe" theory to adopt because it is the one that aligns best with the nature of the mind, which we can directly, scientifically see through meditation. Rebirth is the theory that we come to when we examine the mind with clear compreh...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

It is fair to say that I was perhaps being a little facetious in my reply to whynotme. I don't really believe that any Buddhist would characterize rebirth in either of the ways I described. However, the point is that rebirth, like so many other things of this nature, are believed not upon evidence b...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

Also what evidence do you require to support rebirth? Regards Well, before we can even talk about evidence, we need to establish what "rebirth" involves. If you care to explain how rebirth is supposed to work maybe then we can talk about what evidence would be required. If you are saying ...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

Evidence should be objective. Yes indeed it should. Also I don't think it's right for people to talk of 'Buddhist scientists' or, as was mentioned elsewhere on this forum 'Western science'. To my way of thinking there is just "science". It doesn't need a qualifier. Science is the same all...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

I know exactly what I said. Can you prove that nothing is faster than light? I will be here waiting for your proof This is a complete non-sequitur. Explain to me how "science in it's ultimate form is not about evidence"? Surely it's religion that is not about evidence, it is about "f...

Re: Neurosurgeon's visit to heaven - proof of afterlife?

Not only is there scientific evidence to support Buddhist belief in rebirth, I think maybe you should supply details of this so called "scientific evidence" rather than simply relying upon what some so called scientist said. Otherwise, once again, like many other religious people, you are...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Do you think that Wat Dhammakaya will endure? Judging by the amount of people (and money) involved it doesn't look to me like it's going away!

It looks very much as though they would like to 'take over' Thailand, if not the whole world, religiously speaking (and who knows, maybe politically too).

Exactly! People of faith, whatever faith that may be should stick to their faith and not try to prove their beliefs scientifically! Science and faith are incompatible.
