Re: Can a Theravada Buddhist monk KILL in self defense ?
If the intention is to kill it is not allowed! If it is an accident it is an accident and would be a lesser offence or possibly no offence depending on the circumstance. why all the questions? Why not??? You don't like questions??? I thought Buddhism was all about asking questions??? Cos, in Christ...

Re: The doer/observer
My apologies, I'm reading a book called Brahm Meditation. There is some referencing to the doer and knower/observer in it, that got me confused. "To understand this process, I will now introduce the two halves of the mind: the knower and the doer." Is Brahm Meditation not a proper teaching...

The doer/observer
I was just wondering whether or not once a person becomes the observer, they are still in control of where their life is going. When I make a decision, and follow through I choose the course of my life, but only when I let the doer take control, if I were the observer wouldn't I just sit there aimle...

Video games and mindfulness
I was just wondering if playing video games, for a short period, or long period of time robs you of mindfulness. I have noticed what seems to be dwindling mindfulness during extended sessions of indulging in this form of entertainment. I know this is kind of a mundane question, and may seem irreleva...

Re: Question about the first precept
What if you were drafted to a war, and found yourself fighting in a trench with your allies when a group of enemies storm in firing their weapons towards you, pepper spray wouldn't even phase them in such a frenzy, and you would be killed a hundred times over before reaching them to subdue. If you c...

Question about the first precept
I was wondering, does murdering someone without the intention of doing so break the first precept? An accident for example. Also, even with the intention, if you murder someone in self defense in a situation where you're left no other choice, would this break the first precept? And one more, say the...

Re: Is there any levels of bad deeds
Thank you, I couldn't have seen an explanation so profound on my own. I understand now. I shouldn't be so hasty to discredit anything before trying to understand.

Re: Is there any levels of bad deeds
I always make an attempt to understand all that is offered to me as far as wisdom goes. But I found myself rejecting this idea that killing an Arahant guarantees rebirth in hell, whereas killing an unenlightened person does not. Punishment requires mandate, which implies authority. That being said, ...

Re: Is there any levels of bad deeds
Ahh well, I enjoyed my time learning about Buddhism while it lasted I had a completely different understanding on it's teachings. I don't value myself more than any other, so I do not wish to embark on a journey to become of greater value than anyone else.

Re: My opinion on how to get everlasting maximum happiness
I'm not saying the Buddha is right or wrong, there is no way to know anything for 100% certain. But the ideals you are sharing with us here, are not of Buddhist belief, and were not taught by the Buddha. They are not part of Theravada. "how to get everlasting maximum happiness" is not what...

Re: Is there any levels of bad deeds
There are definitely actions more or less wholesome than one another. For example, killing an Arahant guarantees rebirth in Hell whereas murdering an unenlightened person does not. In fact if this is true, I am 100% done with Buddhism, and will be moving along to being a simple unenlightened being ...

Is this accurate? If so I think my views on Buddhism just radically changed.

Re: What do you think of these statements?
The first thing you must overcome on the road to enlightenment is letting go of the need to grasp for happiness, and hide from sadness. They are chemical reactions in the brain, they come and go, and should not be held onto with such devotion. It would be as nonsensical to grasp to happiness, as it ...

Re: My opinion on karma and why u pay for what uve done- Rebirth
Hey xtra, I don't mean to be rude. But I saw many of your opinions on the forum, and you speak with great purpose. I know you believe yourself to be enlightened, and that you are helping others, but is it not possible that you have fooled yourself possibly? Your ideas carry with them very profound t...
