Re: Unsure where to go
Dear Ven... In a nutshell...for Caucasians in Asia the situation, any situation, be it lay or ordained, is always, always, tenuous at best...from day one to the last...we are not accepted, we are tolerated...and should any (even the slightest) situation head south, it's over... Although there are f...

Re: Unsure where to go
Greetings, Some good (for the most part) info from martinfrank here...even though it's not clear whether you want to 'live the monastic life' or ordain as a monk...either way be aware, generally, repeat, generally speaking the monastic communities of Southeast Asia are not particularly Caucasian fr...

Re: Revealing a cheating spouse: Wrong Speech?
In the case of words that the Tathagata knows to be factual, true, beneficial, but unendearing & disagreeable to others, he has a sense of the proper time for saying them. Confusing...firstly, factual is true, why say 'true'? (granted, it's a sutta quote), beneficial, to whom?...secondly, it's ...

Re: Student Of The Path
All the best to you... Try to remember the lute(?) simile...strings not too taught, not too loose... In eight years in the robes the two words I've heard most from monks (not Caucasian, and virtually no command of English), on innumerable occasions, is 'No serious'...it's all, repeat, all good...no...

<cough>Amen...I propose not to judge. Life comes in many shades of gray. We'll always be relatively good and relatively bad at the same time and we should look at others with the same indulgence we have for our own weaknesses.

Re: searching Dhamma groups in San Diego Ca or Yuma Arizona
Im thinking in going to San Diego or some place near the border to encounter with some buddhists. Below are some links to Theravada or non-sectarian Buddhist spots...although some sites don't exist anymore (not sure about these)...there are many more near the border but most are Mahayana, Vajrayana...

Re: An active moderator shouldn't enter debate
One may consider putting themselves into the position of a moderator for a moment...a (basically) thankless, time consuming slog through virtually (if correct) every post...to ride herd on, and weed out, the possibly far flung (out there (of which there are many)) topics, and ((not infrequent) nebu...
