Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

What is the abandonment of doubts regarding the Dhamma based on? The arising of a deep insight into the nature of things as a consequence of hearing the Dhamma and which would not otherwise have arisen. Having found the Dhamma reliable in this, one is disposed to treat it as reliable in everything ...

With a sickle is more skilful. Most skilful is with a scythe. Use no fossil fuel and get some exercise.

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

Obviously, there isn't a 1:1 correlation between the Nikayas and what we'd have if there had been audio recording for ~45 years. It's simply problematic to wave the Nikayas and say "the Buddha said it", to say nothing of much of the Tipitika. I don't think it's "simply problematic&qu...

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

one no longer doubts truths like kamma or rebirth Are you aware that the doubt hindrance (vicikicchā), as the Buddha taught it, is specifically about wholesome & unwholesome states (dhammas) and their causes, in the sense of the four noble truths, which doesn't have to include just any dogma or...

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

Dear Mr Grimm "Grimnasty". No relative of those fairy tale-writing brothers. You are clearly well-studied in Dhamma, and insightful to boot. I can certainly give some replies to your questions but seriously I think you could do just as well. I'm afraid not. My talent is limited to spottin...

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

After stream entry there is no more doubt about the dhamma, including rebirth and kamma, because one important aspect of stream entry is understanding how the process of rebirth occurs. Is that what the texts actually say, or are you offering your personal perspective here? So full faith in rebirth...

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

are there other ways for uninstructed worldlings to reliably know that kamma and rebirth are true? That is what the first post in this thread explains. Okay, but could I ask you to say a little more on this topic. You stated: "Actually in the vipassana nanas one of the earlier stages is called...

Re: Grim Greetings

Any particular reasons for your grouchy grumpiness, any aversions to deal with ...? Welcome... Thank you for your welcome. I expect the reason is simply samsaric atavism. When you've spent as many aeons as I have as a Brahma deity in the Abhassara world, it's no picnic when your merit gets ...

Re: attain nibbana without knowing about kamma and rebirth

Let alone Full Awakening, I doubt if one could even attain Stream Entry without knowing about kamma and rebirth. Could you clarify what you mean by this? Do you mean that a necessary condition for stream entry is knowing that kamma and rebirth are true? Or is the necessary condition knowing that ka...

Grim Greetings

Hello,

This is Mr. Grimnasty, grumpy Hinayanist misanthrope, wishing you a good day. Or if not "good", then at least a day that's less intolerable than it might otherwise have been.

Re: Thai Buddhist Monks Struggle to Stay Relevant

Considering the degeneracy of this age, wouldn't it be better if Thai monks struggled to become irrelevant?

But wouldn't it be better still if they simply made the Dhamma their sole concern and didn't worry their silly heads about their relevance or irrelevance?
